I'm looking into another meter since my Bravo a) apparently won't arrive until mid-end Sept b) takes .5ul of blood c) is apparently kind of inconsistent. (I also want to be able to be able to test as much as I want/need without worrying as much about cost, plus everything here is done with human meters, making the AT2 a hassle.)

My wants are something that needs .5ul or less, I can find in store in a pinch and I don't have to rely 100% on online purchases - Canada Post keeps threatening to strike, it's pretty frustrating - and under $80 for 100 strips. (Yay, Canada. Sigh.) I took a trip to Walmart and Costco, and this is what I found:

NAYS
- Accuchek Aviva OR Compact; they take .6ul and 1.5ul blood for testing and the strips are the most expensive at $85
- Contour or Contour Next; .6ul of blood for testing, though cost was cheapest at $73
- OneTouch Ultra; 1ul of blood

Which leaves us with...

Freestyle Lite: $76 for 100 strips and has a coupon for a free meter. Pros, I use the AT2 so it's very similar, and I like the "side wicking triangles" feature for the tabs. Cost is decent (for Canada). Smallest blood sample amount at .3ul. Cons, had really dubious results before the recall and it's pretty split now on whether it ever fixed them enough.

OneTouch Verio: $75 for 100 strips and also has a coupon for a free meter. Pros, seems to get good reviews, only needs .4ul, and can also take blood from either side of the strip Cons, though, it doesn't have those handy wicking triangles and it seems to give you A LOT of information, which I don't really need?

Any feelings, or do I just flip a coin at this point? I'd go for the FSLite but the reviews are so mixed! Thank you in advance!

Don't use free style lite.....they fail and that will cost you a visit to the vet and lots of $$....I speak from experience.....you can get a Relion at Walmart and they're inexpensive...they are used more than the free style. We use alpha Trac 2 .....made for pets

Hey Becky, I'm in Canada, so no Relion for me. And I use the AT2 currently but all the methods here at the FD forum are made using human meters, plus the AT2 is really pricy, especially when I want to do every three hour testing or less.

I have used both the AT2 and FS lite meters for years (Canada) and both are extremely accurate. The Relion meter is not available in Canada. ANY meter can have a bad batch. You need to do tests on yourself to check for accuracy and occasionally use the test solution to make sure the meter is reading right,

Here is the link to Consumer Reports 2016.

Actually in Canada the FS Lite meter was rated as one of the best.

You're the best, thank you! Both personal experiences AND a consumer report?! All the hugs for you. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
