Ok I am a little upset right now I started my hometesting with a walgreens brand and did not like it took too much blood I switched to a walmart micro and like to OK but was not impressed with the memory so I had switched to the freestyle lite and was happy with it so far well I was on my last strip tonight had them on order online but did not like only having one strip so I go to walmart to get some for the micro to have as bkup and get home to do my +3 tonight and there was a big difference in meter readings my freestyle was 314 and the walmart relion was 472 to me this is a HUGE HUGE gap its not even close so I am so upset and just honestly do not know what to believe since for the first 2 weeks on lantus we were using the relion. I just switched to the freestyle recently. What meter can I trust either of these???

Data has shown the FreeStyle meters tend to read low at high BGs (like those you obtained). However, at the lower BGs the difference becomes very small. See the following:

I posted this question myself last week--had a 60pt difference between a Maxima AST and a OneTouch Ultra Mini. Here's the link: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9604

Anyway, the basic answer was that there is a +/- 20% window of accuracy on any meter, which means that at the higher levels, there is a large window of "accurate." If the actual BG is 300, the reading on the meter can range between 240 and 360. Naturally, the accuracy tightens as the numbers get lower: if the actual BG is 100, the range of accuracy is between 80 and 120. At 50, the range is only 40 to 60.

So...for the sake of consistency, pick one meter and use it exclusively. I use the AST for all of Max's tests, but reserve the OTU as a backup in case I run out of strips since I can only order the AST strips online (which sounds about the same as what you're doing).

well thats kinda what I was doing the relion is my bkup and strips were to come in the mail today(for my freestyle) but I only had one left of the freestyle last night and I thought that was not enough in case of emergency so I ran to walmart to get some of the relion to have on hand hence how the meter comparison came to be. But thanks so much for responding and helping me out

I noticed that the Relion was always higher than my Presto, even using the same drop of blood,
I had to keep telling myself to stop comparing, and just use one, because I didn't know which number to use in my spreadsheet.
Consistency is more important to me, than exact numbers.
