I'm still doing a lot of researching here on the site about home testing. I'm really confused how everyone interprets readings from the human test meters to what the actual reading is for the little one we are testing. Is their a chart/graph I'm missing? Some of these human meters can have up to a 20% +/- reading for a pet.

How does everyone do this??

ALL meters are allowed the 20% variance....that includes the pet meters

The protocols we use here were all developed using human meters, so we just know what blood glucose values we're trying for and go by the numbers we get

So you have this known +/- variance, not to mention the difference/guesstamation of a human meter with feline blood sample on top of that, how is one supposed to feel confident in those readings. This all seems way too inaccurate.

I'm mean I get, it seems to be working for everyone, but I 'm already intimidated by the process of home blood testing myself, now on top of that serious doubts of the actual readings.

The only thing I can think of is when I'm at the vets next time to have Storm's glucose tested, is if I test with a meter of my own from the same sample and compare the two readings.

Yes there can be a +/- 20% variance, but you have to look at the bigger picture. If you get a reading of 100, that means the true value could be 80-120. Anywhere in that range is a good number, so the variance doesn't matter much. If you get a reading of 500, which means a true value of 400-600, yes that's a huge range, but 400 or 600 doesn't matter, that level is too high.
