See my post below about Elmos spreadsheet .

Was using TruTest Walgreens meter for the past few weeks and his numbers have been real low.

Decided to test using another meter - Maxima from hocks - for comparison

today at +6 - 205 Tru Test meter
+6 - 309 Maxima meter!1!

HELP!! Which meter should I trust???

I have been going by the possible false numbers given by this TruTest meter and have been possibly under dosing him for a week or so :(

Not happy and now confused!!!

Advice please

Test yourself with both meters (assuming that you are not diabetic)

Normal for non-diabetic humans is around 100 or so.

Which meter is closer to what you expect?

Ok thanks so much.

I just tested myself and it was 90 on the maxima and 99 on the walgreens one.
my boyfriend tested and he was 90 on the maxima and 111 on the walgreens.

great I thought not too far off from each other so....

test Elmo

He is 271 on the Walgreens meter and 419 on the Maxima!!

I am going to cry, which one is accurate. I mean that is a crazy difference!!! I would give him 2 if he is 419 and one or one and half if he is 271.

All meters have up to a 20% variance. So, when the numbers go higher, the difference is alot more. But those two seem to have more than a reasonable difference. I might be tempted to average the readings for tonight - that would make the bg 340.

From here out, compare the meters and decide which to use and stick with that! Or take both to the next vet appointment and compare with the vets test and pick the one that seems close.

The percentage variance is a lot more dramatic at high numbers.

at BG=100, the meter can read anywhere between 80 and 120, and it is "accurate"

at BG=300, the meter can read between 240 and 360, and still be "accurate"

at BG=350, the meter can read between 280 and 420

The key is pick ONE meter to use and just keep the other for a backup.

Keep your spreadsheet up and learn what a "300 on Maxima" needs dose-wise (for example).
