Seriously ! I just dropped my meter in the water bowl!! Agh!
Does anyone know if it will dry out, or should I just go and get another? Should I shoot without checking? Her last check was a few hrs ago - 287. It still works but keeps giving me E-6 when I put in a strip.

Not the same, but I spilled a cup of coffee on my cell phone last year. I put it in a bag of rice overnight and it worked the next day.
I'm thinking it might be time for a new meter, however.

It is really hard to say "go ahead and shoot" not knowing for sure, but after climbing to 321, the numbers have stayed flat (not climbing and within meter variance since then).
Your call, but maybe 1 unit instead of two?
How soon could you get a new meter?
Carl

I'm just going to run out now . This way I'll have it for the morning too. I thought the same thing about the rice!

Don't try to use it while wet; it may short permanently. Disassemble and do the rice thing, set near a warm heater vent or refrigerator exhaust (mild warmth).

I dropped mine in a bucket of water once and a few days in rice did the trick, that's also worked for me on a mobile phone. Hopefully you haven't stuffed it by trying to use it wet :nailbiting:

Oh, dear. Well, that's a great way to wind down the day! I'd suggest getting a new meter, letting the soggy one dry out a bit, then compare readings between the two. It's a good idea to have a spare meter, anyway... and spare batteries, too.

I guess by now, everything turned out okay for you. Whew! Just want to add, here, that if it was my situation, I wouldn't shoot without checking, first. Of course, if you know your cat well enough, doing so might be safe enough. Your call, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It did work fine this am but now it wont read. I had more than enough blood on the strip and it never gave me a #. Ill buy a new on this afternoon.

Yes I agree, better safe than sorry! I did talk to my vet today & he thought if it does ever happen again to give her 1/2 her dose as long as she ate all her food first. After not getting any insulin yesterday she seems to be back to normal today so that's a relief. It was just a CRAZY day yesterday for the both of us!

Been there...done that...mine never worked again. You might try replacing the battery in the swimming one and see if it works right again - you'll have a backup if it does. :)
