Meter Brand?

Hi All,

I have been using an Alpha Trak 2 meter for Oreo. We are testing more frequently now, so my mom gave me a One touch Ultra thinking the strips would be cheaper.....The Alpha Trak 2 strips are $55. and the One Touch ultras are $70! (both are for 50 strips). Would any of you have advise for purchasing a meter with cheaper strips since I am going broke.

I would appreciate your advise...

You can buy 50 strips for the One Touch on eBay for $27 with free shipping. They are the same strips you would get at WalMart or at Costco. Just make sure the person you buy from has a good record and you pay by PayPal, eBay stands behind all purchases.

I have a complex diabetic kitty and I shoot 3x a day and test quite a bit, so I go through strips!!

I would suggest that you hit WallyWorld (Walmart) and get one of their 'ReliOn' brand meters. I use the 'Confirm' which takes the same strips as the 'Micro'. I pay $19.98 for 50 strips or $36 for 100. I actually like that meter much better than the OneTouch Ultra - it takes a lot less blood.

I use the Bayer Contour One Touch (how I wish I had access to the US Walmart's brand of testing supplies!) Anyhow, I order test strips off eBay, I have never had an issue with doing so. You need to make sure you repurchase more long before your current supply runs out. ;-)
 
I've used both the Relion Micro and and AlphaTrak (the original, not the new one). The Alpha was my main meter until Ruby went OTJ.

Now that she's OTJ I'm currently testing her once every 7 to 10 days so I've switched back to the Relion. I won't use enough of the Alpha strips to justify the price on them. The Micro is a good little meter, easy to use.
 
You can buy test strips for most Human meters online at places like AmericanDiabetesWholesale.com for less than what you would pay in a store. The Relion brand is sold only at Wal Mart stores so you can't get the test strips online anywhere.
 
Also do a search on Amazon.......different prices for different places. Hocks also sell them for $35 for 50 strips. I pay because I love my old OTU meter.
