In regards to Mertazipine, help! Is an appetite stimulant. Does it interact with Lantus Glargine, and Methimazole transdermal? Gave Micah a 1/4 tab 2 hrs ago, then food and ins, she's meowing and very pissy. Is this normal? Called to my vet, but closed, Emergency vet said keep an eye on her. Any thoughts? Will it wear off soon, 1st dose given tonight. Thanks

Some cats can get vocal and hyper on it. The appetite stim effect can last 3 days but the initial hyperness and talkativeness should go away overnight.
Some cats can have an extreme hyper response so if you see that then you may need to bring her in.
This is a response individual cats have. No interactions to those med.

Well, my cat Merlyn had a bad reaction to Cyproheptadine, also used as an appetite stimulant.. he was almost hyperventilating, couldn't relax, kept pacing and talking. I was worried about him because he had cardiomyopathy. The next day he was ok.

Its more common for cats to have that kind of reaction on Mirtazipine. On Mirtazipine, Merlyn was a bit vocal and more restless than normal for the night but it wasn't nearly as bad as the cypro reaction.

Ironically, if your cat has a bad reaction (and I think you would have seen it by now) the "antidote" if you will, is cyproheptadine..

I give it to Milo sometimes and for around 3-5 hours he gets sort of agitated and restless. His eyes get really big and he just can't seem to close his eyes. It's something I only give as a last resort with him. I switched to 1/8th with him also. It doesn't seem to make much difference but it makes me feel a little better. I try and stay with him for those hours too.

I had another cat Max who had no reaction to it other than the needed appetite stimulation. Some people say to give it every 3 days but my vet said every other was fine which I really needed with Max. I only do the 2 days with Milo if I give him the 1/8th.

Sometimes, active play will trigger the hunt, catch, kill, eat, groom, sleep behavior cycle.
Try about 15-20 minutes before meals.
