Hopefully. I was excited when I saw the blues again & then disappointed when he was 11.2 at +3 last night. Merry was in the 12s at +8 and at AMPS. His SS isn't updated yet with those values. Maybe we'll get some more blues later today & tonight.

@LuanneP

I was reading back through Merry’s condos and I saw this statement by a member:

Lev acts much more like an in and out insulin in Teasel and I can work with that.

I’ve seen this in other condos and I want to dispel this “myth” that Levemir acts like an in and out insulin. In fact, it can have a longer duration than Lantus. If it is acting like an “in and out” insulin, then the CG doesn’t understand how the insulin works.

An example, too, of how it might seem that way is if the CG is feeding the curve with too high carb food. That can decrease the duration of the insulin; it’s not the insulin that doesn’t have the duration....instead, it is the influence of the food on the insulin and that can happen with any insulin. In addition, absorption can influence duration. If the shooting technique is not correct (I’ve seen some CGs shoot way too shallow and when they modified the shooting technique, absorption increased), if the CG is shooting in an area that has thicker skin, or any of the other multitude of things that can cause absorption are in play, duration can be decreased.

I must disagree vehemently with your statement that this is a myth. I was stating what I see in my cat. I can tell you that:
  • he gets low carb wet food at scheduled meal times with nothing fed after +6 and no steering of any kind
  • I believe I have a decent shooting technique and use 1/2" needles inserted well into the "door" of the tent of skin that I pull up high on a number of spots on his mid to rear flank area.
or any of the other multitude of things that can cause absorption are in play, duration can be decreased.
This, I agree with, especially if the phrase "or are affected by an individual cat's distinctive physiology" is added. ECID.

Marje, may I please know why a statement that I made about my impression of how Lev works in my cat is being brought up out of context on a thread posted by a Lantus user? It doesn't seem relevant to the discussion on this thread.

I truly value your expertise, the helpful responses you write and the kindness you extend in setting up spreadsheets and so on, Marje. However, this feels to me (perhaps incorrectly) that comments I've made on the L forum are now being examined under the microscope for accuracy or value or appropriateness after the heated discussion that ensued last night after I commented on the tone of some of the posts I've read on this forum. I hope it hasn't come to this.

I try hard to write thoughtful responses on all the forums where I choose to comment. I'm sure that I've made mistakes in what I've said occasionally - as we all have. I'm sure I've been misunderstood as well. However, I don't think an observation that I've made about what I see in my cat's responses can be called a "myth". I see what I see.

@Kris & Teasel
Marje said what she had to say. You posted a rebuttal. No problem. However, this has now become a personal discussion. It serves no purpose, is not called for, nor is it appropriate in Merry's thread. Please take any further discussion to PMs please.
Thank you.

@Kris & Teasel I am happy to answer your discussions in a friendly PM as Jill suggested.

@LuanneP I didn’t mean to hijack this condo and apologize. I know you have a new condo for today but did not want to carry this forward. I wanted you to know I brought it up based on the question about Levemir in your 11/28 Condo. I felt if any of Merry’s followers or regular visitors were using Lev, they should also be aware of the great duration of Levemir.

With that, we will move on to today’s condo. Thank you for your patience.
