+5 196 (soooo sleepy.... I wish I could convince my body to get up at midnight and 2am...)
+10 297 (fed 40 g. -- he's a hongry kitteh!)

Question:

I've gotten into the habit of testing him at +10, feeding, waiting two hours, and then test/feed/shoot. I do this because we're almost always at home at 8:00 am/pm, so it's a consistent schedule. He's always hungry at 6 am/pm, just like the other cats, so this really works for us. However, considering that ProZinc takes at least two hours to kick in, would it be better to move his shot back to 6am and test, shoot, *then* feed? The way I'm doing it now, he has 2-4 hours each cycle (-2 through +2) where he has food in his belly, but effectively no insulin. I'm not looking to make a change immediately, but I wonder if this is something I should consider for the future.

Happy FRIDAY!!!

Poopy is the same...hungry hours before shot time. When I feed him too close to a BG, I think I see the rise in BG numbers. Not sure if moving shot time will change the hunger times (may be asking for food at 4 instead of 6 if moving shots to 6).

I do Poopy's shots at 6 since that's enough time for me to get home from work, test, feed then shoot, and pretty much keep the same schedule for mornings...unless he lets me sleep until 6! LOL Then I get the shot in within an hour of normal shot time. Getting up at night to do a BG is difficult for me too, but I try to get one in before going to bed (9-10) but that's a +3 or +4 reading...not much help for nabbing nadir.

I'm interested to see your other responses.

If you are wanting to move shot time, I think it can be done. Move shot time up a half hour or hour at a time to get to the schedule that works best for you. (i.e. instead of am at 8, do 7:30. pm at 7:30 or 7:00 and so on.) I'd keep a closer eye on the BG numbers while shifting.

What Teresa said. :-D

One option on the food is just to let him snack during the day with several small feedings and pull them up when you get home, 2 hours before the test. Moving test time is also an option, but as Teresa said, small changes over time. Moving up an hour = a dose decrease as you are a hour later with the insulin. Moving back an hour = a dose increase as you are shooting an hour early. With a new diabetic and not much data, it is kind of tricky and will require more monitoring.

Thanks, Teresa and Sue. With three cats, I can't leave food out. Otherwise, it's a free-for-all, and Baxter (our future diabetic weighing in at 19 pounds) will gobble up everything in sight! I basically feed 40-60 grams over 2 hours in the mornings, and 80-110 grams over the course of 6-8 hours in the evening, depending on who's at home. Looking forward to seeing the +4 today when I run home for lunch!

+4 247
+5 219

I really need to get in there at +2 or +3 to see what his apex is. Maybe tonight.... I just don't want to stick him more than necessary. I'm predicting that his nadir will be around 130. Anyone want to place bets?

Food make the numbers rise so If it were me I might consider mving shot time t
to make things easier...
nice numbers though,
AS you up the dose you sometimes see the nadir moving out...
jsut an fyi
I would like to see what the +6 is cause I am thinking it might be lower

I agree! I'm so much more comfortable with these blues than the greens. I've decided that blues and yellows are my goal now, although I'm predicting 330 at +12 since we just fed him. I wish we could keep those bookends in the low pinks for a few cycles.

He is moving slowly in the right direction, which is ideal. Your curve will help you figure out his nadir and if he does, indeed, have that early jump up after amps. Blue, greens and yellows are so much prettier than blacks and reds.
