I’ve looked at the posts/links but if someone could confirm for me some medium carb choices (bonus points if anyone’s cat prefers Tiki Cat and still likes any of the medium carb choices)

methos stayed blue all morning two days ago, I delayed his pm shot, then gave him a lower dose, THEN panicked when he was still dropping before the pm shot kicked in so gave him the only non-low carb food he’d eat—a high carb kibble. And some greenies. Happy cat. Exhausted me (other cat also has pancreatitis so busy night on the sick cat ward). Needless to say that overshot the mark. Probably should have done as my vet said: reduce dose so I don’t worry overnight and don’t give kibble. Bad cat mom.

tonight I may face that decision again and would prefer to not yo-yo my poor boy. He has Cushing’s and conn’s from an adrenal tumor so I really need to avoid hypoglycemia (more than most). He’s so far refused other brands than tiki cat (only chicken flavors) but I’m headed to pet store yet again and tonight if I give a reduced dose will try a medium carb food if numbers drop. (To those reviewing his SS please remember I use an alphatrak so mentally subtract prob 20-30 if you’re used to a human meter). I’m not trying to get green numbers.

It looks like nutrish and nine lives have some higher carb food—would you suggest those or a different brand? They all seem pretty high in fat as well and I’d prefer to avoid high fat bc of his pancreatitis…any other brand you’d suggest?

thanks!

Hi, Medium Carbs are between 10- 12% carbs below there is a Drs. Food Chart for you of all brands of foods, the third column has the Carbs :bighug::cat::cat:

Hi Colleen! Tiki cat shredded, pate or mousses? If it’s the shreds, you might check out weruva. A couple of their shredded (I think it’s shreds in gravy? Or something similar) are 10-11% and they have a couple in the 20s. Their website is very helpful, they even have dry matter percentages in the detailed nutritional info. I have a picky cat who only does pates, and for higher carbs I sought out fishy foods (his normal proteins are turkey and lamb), to up the chance he would eat them on the rare occasion when carbs were needed. If chicken is a preference vs needed for allergies/diet, it could be something to explore. :)

Edit to add: Weruva Amazon Livin’ is chicken shreds in gravy and 10.3%. On the low side for a MC, but a good amount higher than the regular Tiki Cat foods, so could do the job?

Either one as long as the shredded has no gravy, gravies are high high carbs, always keep in you HYPO KIT. KARO syrup medium and high carbs several cans of each in case of an emergency

Thanks to all! Methos likes mousses, and puka luau (shredded chicken breast in consommé …I should eat as well). He loves fish but because his meds can raise potassium I’ve avoided fish (but for emergencies I can ignore that I suppose). If he ever stopped eating I’d give him fish so this will work. I can’t blame him for ignoring beef and lamb…unlikely he ever caught and ate one when he was free range. The pet store didn’t have nine lives or nutrish but I think I saw weruva…I’ll go back tomorrow. (Owner made a face when i asked for nine lives…I felt compelled to explain my need for carbs ) weruva may have been one I tried (is it the one with the cartoon girl and her cat?)before but I’ll look for fish. They had proplan so I got a few of those, and luckily methos came through and pulled up back to yellow (thank God as I need to take Tammuz in for his US tomorrow and would like a peaceful night and non-scary numbers in the am.

I’m beginning to think if office space opens in the medical center where they’re located I should rent it as my home away from home.

Thanks so much and congrats to you & Cooper on remission!

@SmallestSparrow some of the weruva foods are the girl with the cat, yes (I think OMGravy). Haha! They have a regular line that’s shreds though vs pate. Likely similar texture to the puka luau… but you know: cats. So who knows? My cat went through a *brief* phase where the puka luau and weruva shreds were acceptable.
Good idea on the office space! :p Hahaha! We’ve all had those moments

:joyful: Cats. All last year I cooked bone broth and sous vide chicken breasts to supplement their cat food. Tammuz bless his heart loved both. No man has praised my cooking more. Methos, the main reason I was spending 14 hour in my kitchen twice a month: convinced i was feeding him poison. BUT Methos loved puka luau and the tiki chicken broth. Tammuz refused to even sniff them. After they both got sick at Christmas I was afraid it was my cooking so stopped (now I think more likely they had pancreatitis then )

cats. :joyful:
