Medium Carb food question

We've got health issues going on and had to raise the Lantus dose. That works fine with the morning shot as the meds are spiking him; however that causes a drop of an evening because there's no med spike.

What carb % from J&B's list is considered "medium carb" ??? Going to attempt to counter the drop that way.

Be gentle with those med-carb foods and test a lot. Each cat's spike from carbs is different.

An alternative could be to give a quarter-unit less (or even a smidge less) insulin in the morning so his evening drop is lower. (Remember the drop comes a long time after the shot!) Then use a regular-sized evening shot.

Also, just how low is he going in th evenings? You might be overreacting. If his numbers are above 60 at the low point, you might not want to do anything at all.

Thanks Steve. Check out the past few days on our spread sheet. We hit 46 and 58 at PM +3 the past two nights. We've had to up the dose due to several infections and the morning meds are causing spikes; but the dose is a tad high for the evening shot.

Mid carb is another ECID but I'd start by going to 12-15 percent and see how it goes. Some cats do better with more than 10 percent, Janet and I have always thought 12-15 is about right, there is nothing magic about the 10 percent guesstimate.
