Hello LL,

Yesterday's Crisis: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20151

Thanks so much for all your caring and concern for Meadow. The good thoughts from all of you seem to be working. She is feeling better today as evidenced by the way she dove into the Liv-A-Littles I brought with me tonight. She also ate a few mouthfuls today....but only if the vet hand fed her. That's my girl...spoiled to the core! She ate 1/4 can Fancy Feast for me too...on her own!....and has so far kept down all food eaten today. Of course that could be due to the antiemetics in her IV, but that's okay as long as it stays down. I laid my head down on the edge of her kitty bed and she promptly laid her head on my cheek just like she does when we are home in bed. Stayed that way for quite some time. Felt so good to feel her against my face again. :-D Not sure if they will release her tomorrow or not. I am thinking she may get another day/night on IV before discharge. But so far, things seem to be improving. Oh, and she is showing her calico/tortietude now, so she must be getting better!

They use the Alpha Trak at the hospital and only took a few readings last night after I gave her the insulin. The doctor on duty tonight would not let me do the bg nor would she let me give the insulin... siting liability issues and saying they never should have let me do it last night either. At any rate here were her bg's from them:

So happy to read your post today. That was so cute about her laying her head on your cheek...Awwww....sounds as if she understands what is going on. Let's hope she hurries up and gets better real soon. glad she is eating too!
Get well soon pretty Meadow....sending healing vines to you good girl. :YMHUG:

flip_cat flip_cat Yea! Glad Meadow is starting to feel better! You guys have your little love things like her putting her head on your face...that is soooo cute! She must be feeling better if she is doing that!
Sending continued healing vines to your Meadow...

Yay, so happy to hear she's doing better! It sounds like she's missing you! It's so hard when they're hospitalized. They do seem to enjoy the visits even though they may not understand why you don't take them with you when they leave! They wouldn't let you give her the shot? When Logan was hospitalized, they were more than happy to let me pill him, inject him, etc...of course, he was a little difficult for them but he behaved for his mommy. He's all talk but I think he smelled their fear!

YAY Meadow!!!!!!!! That girl's got spunk.

I'm assuming they are treating Meadow's flare as p~titis. I now have a "p~titis toolkit" since our spring episodes. I insisted (thanks to board advice) with Six/Lyle that I had a p~titis toolkit at home to continue treatment or start treatment immediately if I saw a flare.

I would assume your vet (vs. the ER) could help you put this together if you are comfortable doing something like this at home. If it's not a case of p~titis just ignore the info below. If you search pancreatitis on the board you should come across most of this info...I know a lot of people have been able to keep serious problems to a minimum since they have a kit at home to start treatment at the first signs.

Toolkit includes

SubQ fluids and needles (make sure you know how to give them)
Reglan - for vomitting
Cerenia - Antiemetic (approved in dogs, but used off label for cats *** I have yet to use this on my cats but it was an option for vomiting)
Pepcid AC (we use pill form but there is injectable)
Buprenorhine and needles - pain relief

*** get dosage appropriate for Meadow for all meds

I'm hoping others will chime in that have had p~titis experience and make suggestions/modifications to the toolkit.

Take care! Many pets and hugs to Meadow!

Thanks for the update and so glad to hear that Meadow is doing better and keeping her fuds down.

May she continue to improve and come home soon!!!

Sending healing vines and snowflakes and GLOW for your little girl!

Hooray for tortie tude! LOL! This is such great news. Prayers that she will be home soon and well.

Disregard these numbers. When I called for the bg's yesterday, the girl who read them to me read them wrong. She apologized to me today when I questioned the discrepancy.
