Hello LL,

First thank you to Libby, Sienne and everyone else who stayed with me last night and helped me stay calm enough to get Meadow through the night.

She is a sick little girl right now. Stayed up until 1am with her and a bg of 66. Just as I closed down the computer after saying how her last 3ml of food stayed down, she vomited it all up again. So I stayed up another hour and got a 70 bg and 1/2hr later a 75. So I took a 2 hour nap and got up again at 4am to check her and she was at 92. Still would not touch food or water.
This morning at 6:15am, she was 148. Offered a array of foods, but all she did was sniff, lick her lips 2 or 3 times and walked away from every flavor. At 7:45am, she was 230. She went to the litterbox and what came out really upset me. It was the same odd color as last night, but this time it was quite watery and seemed a bit more reddish. So I packed her up and was on the vet's doorstep when he opened. Her temp is 102.2. He isn't sure if it pancreatits or something else. She has lost another pound over the last 2 months is now down to 7lbs. She was 11lbs last year. We took blood and a stool sample and I still have to get a urine on her. She emptied her bladder just before we left and I wasn't quick enough to get the sample before she was done. I have a 1:30 appt with the internist for an ultrasound. Right now she is sleeping next to me. Whatever I put in her, comes back out again. 9:30am she is up to 356. Vet suggested .5u which she got at 8am when he saw her just to keep her "topped off".
He gave me tramadol for her because they didn't have bupe. Has anyone used tramdol? I am afraid to give it to her on an empty tummy so am waiting until I see the internist and see what he says. We have flagyl too but are waiting for a definite diagnosis. Bloodwork won't be back until later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Please say a prayer, send snowflakes, vines or Glow for my precious girl. I am so scared right now.

I'm so sorry that Meadow is sick. This is hard on you. I'm glad you got to the vet this morning and have another appt. with internist for ultrasound. More information is always good and I sure hope they find something to help her get well quickly.

My heart goes out to you and all paws are crossed for quick recovery. ((((Hugs to you)))

Did your vet do blood work for a spec-FPL to check if it is pancreatitis or will the internist possibly do that? We battled with two kitties this spring with p~titis. It can be a rough couple of days, but I want you to know she can pull through it.

I can't help on the tramadol....never used it. Sorry.

Gabby had something similar. We did a full blood panel -- all of which came back normal. Since it wasn't p'titis, no pain meds. There are people here who have used Tramadol. Here's some info on it's use.

My vet prescribed Flagyl as well. Gabby was on it for about a week along with Pepsid. She needed a second course -- symptoms came back. The second course of treatment involved both Flagyl (metronidazol) and metaclopramide (Reglan) which helped with the nausea and Pepsid. She was on the Flagyl for about a month. Things seem good now.

I hope Meadow's response is a good as Gabby's. Snowflakes and vines for a quick response and recovery.

I am so sorry to hear that Meadow is still sick. I know how hard this is for you. It is good that you were able to get her to a vet so quickly, and have an additional appt with an internist. I hope all goes well for Meadow, and that she feels better soon.

Mannie and I send a ton of snowflakes and healing vines. We will be thinking of you.

Amy, I wasn't sure if he did or not, so I called him and requested it. Thank you for mentioning that. He hadn't done it because he thought the internist might, but why draw blood from her twice if he can order that test, right?. Thanks for the vines and snowflakes.

I'm curious how those terms came into use here. My friends and I use GLOW as the al inclusive term for prayers, love, healing vibes, good thoughts..whatever else you believe in.

Thanks for tha link, Sienne. Very informative. I hope Meadow has good results like Gabby. She's had the pnacreatitis episodes before and the flagyl and anti-emetic always got her back to eating the next day. This seems so different. Or maybe I am just reading too much into her symptoms...I hope.

I'm sorry Meadow is having such a hard time of it. It sounds very similar to what my boys had last week but not nearly as bad as what Jackson had going on with his belly and he is sitting right next to me and here to 'talk' about it.

Whatever it is, Dottie, Meadow will get through this. It could be pancreatitis or maybe she even ate something bad. But she will get through it. With her stomach so irritated I'm not at all surprised that she's not keeping anything down now. I wouldn't even try to get anything more down her orally (I'm not clear if that is your intention).

She will be fine!

Poor little Meadow, blizzards if snowflakes and arbors of vines for her. I hope she feels better very soon. You need to take care of yourself too, get a few naps in whenever you can.

some of the terms come from typos, some come from people's posts that others liked. vibes was typoed into vines.
hoping for useful update from vet and a quick fix for your little munchkin.

I hope she gets over whatever it is. I hear that sometimes ultrasound and the fPLi don't always give a positive result, even if cat has p-itis.

But, if they took blood while she's having an attack, it's a better chance of it giving a positive if she does have pancreatitis. If she's throwing up, you might ask for an anti-nauseant. I liked the anzamet (0.25ml) versus the cerenia. Both sting, but the anzamet dose is smaller.

Pepcid, bup, and SQ fluids are also good. I don't worry TOO much if they're not eating (it is painful for humans with pancreatitis, so i figure it's not fun for cats either). You might also consider remeron (mirtazapine) as an appetite stimulant (which also has an anti-nauseant property, but not very powerful).

Thank you all for caring about Meadow and sending all the positive thoughts, flakes and vines. She is currently in ICU at the 24 hour specialty clinic. Her US showed a very very badly inflamed pancreas. The internists words were "Man oh man. that thing is on fire!" I was a basket case this afternoon because he wasn't giving me much hope saying that if she isn't better in 2-3 days I would need to "make a decision". I asked "what kind of decision" and he said "well, just how long do you put her through this?" I told him we will take one day at a time and she WILL get better. I left there at 4pm and called my vet and he said he is optimistic that she can recover, but it may take 2-3 days or maybe even a week of intensive care. Went back at 7pm and spent an hour with her because I wanted to make sure she got her insulin and that the night shift was informed as to all her issues. She already seemed perkier with the pain meds on board and was sitting on the table headbonking her daddy and me and purring away and kept pushing her head into my hand for more pets. When the tech brought in some awful yucky looking food, she put her head up and seemed interested and took 2 licks, but that was it. I had brought a jar of baby food with me and finger fed her 1/2 the jar. Going to call them at 11pm before I go to bed to see if that stayed down. Hopefully it did. Her bg tonight was 376 on the Alpha Trak. I forgot to bring my own meter to check her and compare readings. Will do that tomorrow. All in all, considering how bad her US was, I am encouraged by how much better she seemed tonight as compared to this morning.

((((((((Dottie)))))))) you did just the right thing by getting her into ICU so she can start to feel better. I'm glad the pain meds seem to be helping. You caught this quickly so I have to believe that will make a difference. Sending more snowflakes and vines and GLOW.

Dottie...your visit does sound very positive.

Don't listen to the vet, but you already know that... ;-)

It sounds like they are leaning towards p~titis. I had one very sick kitty this past spring with a an attack and I was very worried, but he pulled through. It was a rough couple of days, but with the right treatment Meadow will pull through this.

Your visit with her sounds encouraging....so sweet with her head butts.
And I am glad you got that baby food into her too. She is in the BEST place now so they can give her pain meds and watch her. You did good!!! (((((Dottie)))))

Hugs and vines and positive healing light to Meadow. She will recover, if you know that in your heart pay no attention to "making a decision". Sometimes vets have no compassion.

yeah... sounds like a bad flare of p-itis. She's in the best place to care for her needs right now.

You should ask if they'll let you leave a dirty t-shirt or something in her cage (something that has your scent). I also left a woolen mousie for Cosmo when he was there for a week. When I visited, i brought the brush, b/c he LOVED being brushed. And I was pretty sure he'd get better when he started purring.

I'm just reading this now, Dottie and am so so sorry that Meadow isn't doing to well. I am sending tons of healing vines, snowflakes, and a great big dose of GLOW to Meadow. I hope she keeps getting better and better as time goes by. Get better pretty girl. We are all pulling for you.

Oh Dottie I am so happy that Meadow is where she is. You did good!!! The ICU folks undoubtedly know lots about P-titis and will be able to help her. Meadow will pull through this, I just know it!

I hope Meadow makes a speedy recovery. I'm so sorry we couldn't do more last night but is sounds like she's getting good care (except for the yucky food).

Thanks again everyone! It sure helps having all of you sending special vibes for Meadow to get better. It must be working too. I just called for an update and she has held down the 1/2 jar of babyfood I fed her at 8pm. Yay! They said she has been sleeping in her litterbox, but if that makes her feel better, fine. The tech also said they will recheck her bg at 2am. Wish I could stay up until then to find out, but I am physically and emotionally exhausted. She also said Meadow was quite interested in everything going on around there. That's a good sign because she is Miss Nosy herself. ;) Okay, off to be dnow. Will update tomorrow as soon as I am able but the painter is coming again so it may not be until later in the day.
