Just spoke with the vet. McCallie does have diabetes. His bloodsugar is 356. No ketones. Very good healh at 15 lbs. He is a very big cat. He also lets me play with his ears so testing should not be a problem. He is staying at the vet for tests and because we have had a family emergency....my uncle had a stroke yesterday.
I think his number is higher due to vet stress. So we will change his food and moniter for a few days and see what the numbers do. I am hopefull that he will be able to be diet controled. But will switch to insulin if he needs it by the end of the week. Dr. Oneal prefers lantus, but I hope he will consider levemir. Either way he is very up to date on feline diabetes and willing to work with my parents and me.
So overall the news is good for McCallie. Unfortunately the news is very bad for my uncle. Will keep you posted.
