Just spoke with the vet. McCallie does have diabetes. His bloodsugar is 356. No ketones. Very good healh at 15 lbs. He is a very big cat. He also lets me play with his ears so testing should not be a problem. He is staying at the vet for tests and because we have had a family emergency....my uncle had a stroke yesterday.

I think his number is higher due to vet stress. So we will change his food and moniter for a few days and see what the numbers do. I am hopefull that he will be able to be diet controled. But will switch to insulin if he needs it by the end of the week. Dr. Oneal prefers lantus, but I hope he will consider levemir. Either way he is very up to date on feline diabetes and willing to work with my parents and me.

So overall the news is good for McCallie. Unfortunately the news is very bad for my uncle. Will keep you posted.

Sorry to see about your uncle. {hugs} hang in there.

Let us know when you're ready for more info.

That's real good news for now, Cindy. Good talking to you on the phone -you sound better than you did yesterday - sending hugs.

With your experience, you know the route to take - already having two diet-controlled plus the way Smokey responded to your treatment - am sure McCallie will be just fine - especially with his A-l health rating otherwise. Hope your dad and mom can stick with the diet regime for the next few days and hopefully McCallie's #'s will drop like Dude's do (ha ha - sometimes, that is) - okay, well maybe not QUITE so far down so rapidly. But hoping the diet works and you can avoid moving him to your place and going the insulin route.

Sending lots of love your way for what lies ahead this weekend and your trip to your uncle's - so sorry to hear that happened. Keep us posted on McCallie and have a safe trip to Atlanta - drive safely, okay?

We love you.

Thinking about you. (((Cindy))) I'm glad you are going to see your uncle. I hope there is some improvement for him, this is a difficult time for your family, I'm sure.

I hope too that McCallie improves with the diet change. His number at the vet wasn't scary high, but even if the diet change doesn't quite bring his BG down permanently, your treating him with insulin will.

All my best!
