Sinatra is on Lantus
Unable to get a blood sugar this morning - cat growling and HUNGRY. Gave insulin anyway. Keep up everything else the same? Does not being able to get AMPS affect the course of the day? At 11 am it was 334 (post eating and protein snack). Have not started entering data in spreadsheet yet.

Sidenote to the above: he was very compliant initially for 3-4 days but suddenly growling. I think because we "let" my hubby do it last night and he was way more bossy with Sinatra than needed.

This is my first post HERE (lots on FB page) so I hope I got the stuff in the right order - if not - I'll get it eventually. Thanks....

Can you please enter any data you have to your spreadsheet, we need to see the numbers in order to see how the insulin is working and how low it's taking Sinatra

Hi. In order to help you can you enter whatever data you have from the past two weeks? What are you feeding him? When was he diagnosed? Please post all that as an intro on the main forum.

As for today please get a +2.

Hello and welcome. I've removed the GA from the subject title. That is to identify cats that have Gone Ahead or become Guardian Angels. Glad to see that's not true with Sinatra.

It shouldn't the rest of the day. However, it's a really good practice to get that AMPS, to make sure it's safe to give insulin.

Do you need help entering data on the spreadsheet? We really need to see that before helping you with the dose.

I think I figured out how/what to put. in the spreadsheet. I set it up yesterday so I'm not sure why it's not showing up in my signature. I'll work on that. Regarding the insulin - she really gave it Many good tries. It just wasn't going to happen because he was getting "bitey". We had to make the executive decision to just give it. I'm trying so hard to get to the point that I can get data on that sheet - unfortunately in the midst of all this is my son's 18th, graduation from High school, personal illness and the list goes on and on. I'm trying I'm promise!

Thank you! I thought it wasn't showing up at all for some reason. Do I put the data in from oldest to newest info on top?

Yes put the date you first started a insulin , thevAMPS and the dosecand any tests
you took during both the AM cycle and the PM cycle and again can you please set up your signature so we don't have to ask you the same questions over and over again :cat:
please set up your signature which will tell us information about Sinatra. It's at the end of everyone's post in gray , you can look at mine or anyone else's

Just wanted to add a big HELLO and welcome to the best place you never wanted to be!

It'll get easier over time. Try to be gentle with Sinatra, this is all new to him. Sorry to hear he's gotten growly and grumbly for the testing.

Did you watch the video of how to test your kitty using the rice-filled baby sock? I too had many difficulties when we first started - oh what a time we had - I'll never forget it.

The best tip I got was to fill a sock with some rice - only a couple of tablespoons - it just needs to fit underneath his ear - about the size of a small golf ball. Then you can warm it in the microwave - I still use the rice ball on Luci's ear - helps to prop it up and keeps me from stabbing my finger! I used to give her a little massage with the warmed rice ball so she became familiar with it - some kitties don't seem to like you coming at them with foreign objects (like rice filled socks!! ) so just give him a chance to figure out that it won't hurt him...then I usually use the lancets freehand - I couldn't really see when I used the lancing device (the holder)..so I tossed those out..use a little antibiotic ointment afterward - just a tiny amount on his ear to help healing/pain. Although some folks don't like it, Luci has always seemed to respond well to it.

You've done quite well for your first day! It's a lot of information and a lot to deal with in the early days! But practice makes perfect and you'll have plenty of opportunities to read and learn and do all this stuff over and over...

Hang in there! Looking forward to your new post tomorrow!

P.S. I did the exact same thing on my first post with the GA - I thought it mean 'General Advice' LOL! :woot:

Always aim for the sweet spot warm the ears up first, you can put rice in a sock and put it in the microwave, test it on the inside of your wrist to be sure it's not to hot, like you would test a babies bottle. You can fill a pill bottle with warm water and roll it on the ears also.Just keep rubbing the ears with your fingers to warm them up

6. As the ears get used to bleeding and grow more capilares, it gets easier to get the amount of blood you need on the first try. If he won’t stand still, you can get the blood onto a clean finger nail and test from there.
When you do get some blood you can try milking the ear.
Get you finger and gently push up toward the blood , more will appear
You will put the cotton round behind his ear in case you poke your finger, after you are done testing you will fold the cotton round over his ear to stop the bleeding , press gently for about 20 seconds until it stops

Are you using 26 or 28 gauge lancets?
