I thought I'd start a new post on this, but it follows my last post about his bgl for today. I went to retest following his low number after I finished getting ready for work...couldn't find him. I looked upstairs, downstairs, shook the kitty treat can, and then I see him come through the pet door from the garage where the other cats had been eating their dry food breakfast. He BROKE the pet door to get to the dry food. ohmygod_smile

I have no idea how much he ate, but he looked pretty pleased with himself. I immediately retested him and got a 367. He been down there at least 30 minutes. All of his wet food was gone, as well. I went ahead and shot the .5u dose. I don't know if that was the right thing to do or not, but I was running really late for work and had to do something. Now what? :?:

Here's my wisdom: Consider this one a bust, and don't be freaked out by the next preshot. Screw some plywood over the broken pet door, go to work, and look forward to the next cycle!

They can be REALLY persistent when they want their carbs!!!

That should be okay since he will probably be high enough for the dose with the dry.

I replied to the earlier post and think my on-going advice still applies. Any dry food will mean a set back so you will just have to go with the new somewhat lower dose til it is out of his system.

Any chance everyone can eat wet low carb? Dry food adventures are a 2 steps back scenario and really frustrating. And even if Max is lucky enough to be a remission cat, he will always need to eat wet low carb. Once a diabetic, always a diabetic. Even a little dry can send a kitty out of remission.

Have you hear of FortiFlora? It is a probiotic that has the enzyme in dry food that makes it so irrestible. You can sprinkle it on and, for some cats, it is a great way to get them eating wet. (doesn't work for all cats). You can get it on line or sometimes from the vet.

I tried the wet food for the others and it did not go well. They were leaving the food and it was going bad. One of them started peeing all over the house. My biggest reason for not feeding them wet is cost, though. We have 3 other cats and our budget is tight. The canned food is so darn expensive when they need to all eat 2-3 cans per day. Our health insurance just went up another $200 per month (we own our own business and I am a temp where I work...hence no health insurance from my work, even though I've been here 2 years). Add to that the expense of feline diabetes and we are broke. I will just buy a new pet door, start feeding him in the bathroom until all of the other food is up and start all over again.
