Maury's ? progress

I am very glad I have the AT2 meter as well. The FSL test strips I use in it tend to read 10-20 lower than the AT strips so I didn't really panic. I figured it was because he didn't eat his lunch. I know that 37 looks really scary though!

Is it a full moon or something?!?!??! Glad he ate lunch and is coming back up. You should be passing nadir so hopefully he'll come slowly and steadily back up. You handled this perfectly!

So how do you decide when to reduce after a hypo, and when to hold steady? Someone should put all of the "if this...then that..." wisdom together into a book. And then sell it to all the vets.

lol. I don't consider Maury to have had a hypo today or the last time we had <50 readings because I have the AT2. Unfortunately, I do not think they could publish an "if this...then that" book because each cat responds differently if they have the same BG numbers :cat:. With Maury, I am just learning what he does so since he went to nice greens today, that was still a big drop so I expect him to bounce. I chose my dose based on previous data, hoping to keep him from bouncing as high as I suspect. Since he didn't bounce up as fast as usual, I am going to set an alarm to get another reading or two after his +2 tonight, closer to his nadir.

Not sure if any of that helps answer the question

I would always reduce after a hypo because it leaves them more sensitive. How much is a crap shoot and you have to experiment. More experiments = more data = better decisions down the line. I think the 1 u you gave this evening is fine.

Reduction level with TR when using a pet meter is 68. Some people will shoot one cycle with the old dose after a hypo if the numbers are high, but with that 37 today you NEED to take the reduction.

ETA Correction......Sorry TR does not apply with Prozinc...my mistake

37 was ReliOn human meter. I immediately tested with AT2, lowest reading was 79. He already had his PM shot, in 5 mins I'm getting the +2 and monitoring him overnight. I thought TR was just for Lantus/Levemir?

Ooooh....so he read hypo on the human meter, but not on the AT2, and if I remember correctly, the AT2 is considered more accurate since it's designed for pets' blood. Is that right? In which case he wasn't hypo today....just low.

Yep, I always suggest to reduce...a hypo means they had too much insulin, so it makes sense to reduce. And since many cats are insulin sensitive after a hypo, you want to be careful.

I don't know if the AT is more accurate...I think it's just different. Did you get a reading on the AT as well?

OK sorry I thought that 37 was on a AT2 meter. AND I missed that you are using Prozinc so TR doesn't apply. That is a big difference between the Relion and the AT2 meter though. It normally is not that big a difference. With that big a difference I personally would have done two more readings one on the Relion and one on the AT2. You did get more low numbers after the 37, so it appears that he did go into hypoish numbers. If the 37 was accurate with the Relion, even with Prozinc you should be considering a reduction.

ETA When I look at threads I just look at New Posts and sometimes don't catch which ISP it is in. My bad!

Yes 37 was NOT on At2 :). I know it's a big difference but every test I've done, my two meters tend to vary more then others. No worries about the TR protocol, just threw me off for a moment lol. Just got his +2 reading and it is a bounce. I think he will be ok with the skinny 2.75U, but like I said to be safe I am going to set alarms to recheck him :)

@Rachel Supposedly the Alpha Trak pet meters are better calibrated for feline and canine blood composition :cat:

Edit: Not on AT2, sorry I'm very tired >_< Notes are also on my SS, cells with black triangles

I am a bit confused. You said previously "37 was ReliOn human meter. I immediately tested with AT2, lowest reading was 79." In your last post you said "Yes 37 was on At2" ?????

Think I better start a new thread after this lol. I don't know which comments are for Djamila and Sam and which are for Maury :p
