Hillary & Maui (GA)

Member Since 2009
Recently I wrote about how Maui came to into my life and all the ups and downs we faced together. It wasn’t until Maui was diagnosed with FD that life changed for us in so many both good and bad, but mostly good.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=109923

I found FDMB, asked questions and learned. As is my way with life, I tried to bring humor to her situation and that is when Roving Reporter Alphabean came to life. For the longtimers on this board, Roving Reporter Alphabean was Maui’s friend and troublemaker. He attended all the OTJ parties and tattled on everything that our kitties did. He got himself into much trouble and caused angst to Miss Maui.

While Maui was on insulin, she became the diva that we all know and love.

She had to learn how to eat wet food and we all remember the photos of this experience. Any self respecting kitty, would never be caught with food all over her face.

Maui did not care. She wore her food proudly and as it turns out this was the first of many times that Maui would wear her food, especially her chicken treats and Stella & Chewy’s food.

One day she wasn’t feeling well, so I brought her breakfast in bed. Well that is all it took was one serving and Maui thought this was how it was always supposed to be. She expected and even demanded to be served in bed.

I would prepare their meals and call her. Normally she would come when I called, when I said breakfast is ready come on Maui, there was no Maui. I called again and nothing. I walked into the bedroom to find her laying in the middle of the bed with her front paws crossed and this look on her face telling me well I’m hungry and waiting to be served.

I knew I created a diva! And I her lowly servant obliged.

It only became a problem, if I left the food in the middle of the bed and got into bed and proceeded to put my foot in the food. Yuck! That’s when the food was moved to the corner of the bed and when she was hungry during the night, I would hear her get up and go to her bowl and eat.

Maui also loved to go outdoors. I have two chairs on my little porch, one for me and one for Maui. When she first wanted to go outside, I used a leash, because I didn’t know what would happen. She quickly only wanted to sit on her chair and soak up the summer sun. I soon realized that I could trust her outside and if I needed to run in to answer the phone, get a drink, she wouldn’t move from her chair. Every summer we spent days on the porch, me reading and Maui enjoying the sun.

After she went blind, I was concerned that she would “get lost” outside, but I swear, she knew exactly where her chair was positioned and I think she even counted the steps, because she would lift her front paws in the air searching for her chair.

Maui had lots of friends and adventures in Lantus Land. After she got her OTJ Condo at the Falls, she acquired a yacht, a roadster and a jet! She also acquired my credit card to pay for it all. She threw awesome parties and knew how to have fun with her friends.

Maui made a knew friend in Elsa, Mannie’s friend and roommate and Elsa became Maui’s co-pilot and was called Lil BIT PIT – which stands for little barista in training and pilot in training. Elsa my darling you are no longer a Lil BIT PIT – you are now a full-fledged KBP – Kitteh Barista Pilot and Maui is giving you her Pilot’s license along with her jet so you can fly the kitties to all the OTJ and Full Moon parties.

Maui also tried her best to hire kittehs to do her bidding. She always had lovely uniforms, err outfits for them, with their names on them. Whenever she hired a kitteh, he or she always ended up nekkid and losing their outfits. Many a time Maui came back from her Condo with a wagonful of strange clothes.

In true Maui style, I know she is at the bridge directing and bossing all the kittehs that are already there. I hope they have a party to welcome her and serve her favorite niptinis and nipjitos!

Maui truly was magnificent is so many ways and I am stunned at the suddenness of what happened. Smooch your kittehs and make sure to take photos of them at least once a month if not more frequently.

The following are the photos I happened to take last night of Maui the Magnificent. Her last photos…in typical Maui form, she has litter dust and food on her face!

Goodbye my love, until we meet again.

(((((Hillary)))))! I can hardly read your beautiful tribute to your girl! Damn it! I am so sorry!

Fly free, Maui, and view your new world where you are healthy, young, and can see again!

Oh wow. Beautiful. How wonderful that you took photographs last night. And especially poignant that she had her food on her pretty face, just as she should. (((Maui))) always a character… and so is her mommy. (((Hillary)))

What a magnificent kitty! I love the way she ruled the house, insisting on food in bed!!!

Bailey is the same way with food, always with a dirty nose and chin. He even sneezes after he eats cos he shoves his nose right in.

Fly free sweet girl...

Wendy

Hi Hillary - what a beautiful tribute to your girl. It brings tears to my eyes. What a character she was, such wonderful soul. Such great memories all around, from her first day in LL, to her fabulous condo at the Falls. Maui, Mannie hopes you brought the roadster with you - he so remembers letting you drive, teaching you the ropes behind the wheel, all those spin-outs, all the fun. You watch over your bean, she is sad, and misses you more than she can say.

Maui we shall always always remember you. Always in our hearts, never to be forgotten.

Auntie Hillary... I am so humbled. I will be the best pilot ever. I miss my friend. Maui - no more craziness I swear. Tonight I will do a fly by, near the heavens, to remember you. All us kitties are coming. You watch for us! ~~ Elsa, KBP

She will be missed so much, fly baby fly a pond your mystery ship...I was so saddened to read on FB about Maui, run free little messy face.

(((Hillary)))
What a wonderful tribute to your beautiful Maui. I am so sorry that she was taken from you so suddenly. She will always be remembered and missed by her many friends. I know that her new condo at the Bridge will be party central for all of the GA kitties. (((Maui))).

(((Hillary)))) What an absolutely beautiful tribute to Maui the Magnificent.....one of a kind and a LL legend. We are so very sorry for your loss but Heaven has gained a new boss and diva extraordinaire. I know, in my heart, you will see her again.

The Ridge by Carol Notermann

It’s been such a lovely summer, I’ve been napping in the sun.
This morning, other cats and I enjoyed a long long run.
We chased butterflies together. I climbed high into a tree.
And now I think what woke me up was that small bumble bee.

I’ve yawned and stretched, and still I feel that something has begun.
He’s standing there in robes of white, and telling me to come.
I always run to Him you know, when He comes across the bridge
To see if we’re all having fun and if we’ve checked the ridge.

He gives tummy rubs to all of us and pets and cuddles too
I’m glad to see Him every day, when He comes into view.
Each day He takes a different cat, and chats with them a while
Then off that kitty starts to run. I swear they seem to smile.

But now He’s stopped in front of me. He’s said a name I know.
He said to look out towards the ridge. The sun is setting low.
I start to walk out toward the ridge, and then what’s that I see.
IT’S YOU! IT’S YOU! It’s really you. You’ve come to be with me!

My goodness you are running and I am running too!
You stop to bend, but I can jump and now I am with you.
I feel your kisses on my head, as I did in long off days
You’re holding me and hugging me, and into your eyes I gaze.

And now He’s walking with us, as you carry me once more
We’ve crossed Rainbow Bridge together. We’re here at Heaven’s door.
And He has held it open, and told us to walk through
That from now on and forever, I can always be with you.

Fly free, sweet girl.

I'm so sorry Hillary. I was stunned when I read Venita's post on FB. Crying at work as I read about Maui. Such a sudden loss.

Fly free Maui, I am lighting a candle for our journey.

(((((Hillary)))))

I am so sorry that you and Maui have had to temporarily be parted. I have no doubt that Maui (or her counterpart, the Roving Reporter Alphabean) will be sending back stories of the goings on at the Bridge. I also have no doubt that Maui is busy preparing tunaritas and niptinis in Stu and Mannie's kitchen.

Fly free Maui and land softly. There are many who you know who will keep you company at the Bridge until you are reunited with the one you love best.

Hillary. I am so sorry to hear that Maui has passed. Sending you big hugs and loves as you grieve the loss of a Magnificent kitty.

Karen

(((Hillary)))
What an absolutely beautiful story and tribute to Maui. I am so sorry for your loss and your broken heart. You did the right thing this morning of course, but that doesn't make it easier. Nothing makes this easier. I just wish I could make it not hurt.

Polly just met Maui a few days back when you posted the "Friday the 13th Black Kitehs Rule" condo, and she flew the jet down to her beach. Polly will miss her.

Maui, fly free like the legend you are. Now you can see again, and what sights you will witness. And I am sure that somewhere across the bridge, there is a big soft bed with your name on it. And a big bowl of all your favorite foods sitting right there in the middle.

Hugs, Hillary. Big ones.

Carl and Polly

Oh Maui! I sure hope you have enough uniforms, er outfits, for all those other GA kitties at the Rainbow Bridge. Elsa may need to do a fly by and cargo drop at the next thinning of the veil.

{{{{{hugs}}}}} for Hillary

What a wonderful tribute to the Magnificent One. We enjoyed reading of all the adventures and Maui's condos always brought a smile to us or even better, guffaws of laughter, always such good medicine in LL. Today, they bring us tears. What a life full of love, who could ask for more? Fly freely our favorite black cat diva, until we all meet again.

I am so sorry for your sudden loss Hillary. I am sure she is having fun at the Bridge, and enjoying her new found freedom. wings_cat

Sail on in your celestial yacht, Maui! Mix those wonderful niptinis and bring them to the Bridge spa in your little red wagon! How we will miss you in LL, but at the Bridge the kitties are having the most terrific party tonight--the first of many. Fly free, dear girl. You are much loved.

(((((Hillary))))) we are sending you many :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: tonight. Your girl is lighting up the heavens, zooming around on her beautiful new golden wings. She will watch over you until you meet again.

Our deepest sympathy,

Ella & Edward, Rusty, and Stu (busy tonight with Mannie in the Two Chefs' Kitchen, preparing a sumptuous welcome banquet for their dear friend)

(((((Hillary)))) i'm so terribly sorry to hear of this. what a wonderful tribute to a very special little kitteh! i loved the story of her chair.

forever in our hearts - fly free little one. :YMHUG:

(((Hillary))) a beautiful Tribute for your special girl. I love all the photos and how she was served in bed. So many of our GA's will be waiting to help Maui cross the Bridge. Lots of fond memories of Maui and the parties on LL. So sorry for your loss.

((Hillary)) I am so very truly sorry for your loss. Scrabble's crossing was so sudden also so I know how you feel. All of the kitties will be there greeting Maui at the bridge! Your tribute was so touching! Fly free Maui you will always be a legend here. Big hugs to you.

(((Hillary)))
Such a beautiful tribute to Maui, and such great pictures of her. I am so very sorry for your loss and how sudden it came. My deepest sympathies during this very difficult time for you and your family :YMHUG:

((((Hillary))))

Both beautiful tributes. You have done Maui proud. Almost as great as what she would have written about herself :) You two had a one-of-a-kind relationship that would be hard to put into words or even unbelievable if I hadn't seen it myself.

No regrets. There was nothing else that could be done. But everyone will miss Maui the Magnificent for a very long time. I can only speak for myself but I will miss hearing about her sitting on the chair on the porch in the summer. That always cracked me up. Now she can do it all year long all the while saving a chair for you!

Lots of Love,
Caryl xo

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all the outpouring of warmth, love and condolences. It's so hard to put into words what one feels at a time like this. I know many of you have had to say goodbye to your furbabies too.

There never seems to be the right thing to say or do, because honestly there is nothing that can be said or done. It's done, it's over and as my dear friend Caryl put it, all we want is our babies back in our arms and homes. The one thing that we cannot ever have again.

Losing a loved one, whether sudden like Maui or prolonged is not easy. There is no easy, no pretty, no peace. One just needs to learn to live with the void and know deep down that the right decision was made (not for me, but for her). And while my heart is shattered, I will pick up the pieces and carry on.

Remembering Maui's adventures and those of many LL kitties is how I will honor her. In true Maui fashion, I found an old posting that sums of the life and fun of Maui the Magnificent. Now for your reading pleasure, sure to bring a smile, chuckle, maybe even a snortle - an oldie but a goodie.....

Good morning, this is your favorite Roving Reporter Alphabean coming to you live from the deck of Maui’s beautiful condo at the Falls.

I know you must have missed me, however, when Maui left for the Falls, well I wanted to take a vacation, I went there too. Let me tell you, my first days were wonderful. Maui and I lounged around, met the neighbors and had some great feasts. Then, Maui got word that her valet/cabana boy/butler, Spot was not yet ready to take up his post. In addition, Maui put me, your Roving Reporter Alphabean to work filling Spot’s job.

My vacation quickly ended and I have become Maui’s servant for the past month. I finally told her that is enough, I am going back to my real job and Maui kicked me out of her condo. She said, if I do not work, I could not stay.

Therefore, I am now standing outside her condo in the rain, without an umbrella. Maui is watching me from the comfort of her bed and I see her snickering behind her paws.

Uhh, Alphabean. This is the Studio, don’t you have a report to give. We want to hear about Maui and what she’s been up to.

OK, fine Studio. Alright folks. Today, June 12 is Maui’s official one month OTJ!

Maui has been one busy kitty, she’s planted her nip and secret herb garden, changed the ballet – you all remember the ballet she was producing – Dance of the Fancy Felines? Well the ballet is now becoming a musical play. Rehearsals are still in progress and there have been some casting changes, from what I have seen, it looks great.

Maui herself has gained back the 3 pounds she lost, her fur is rich and thick and oh so soft (she won’t let me touch, unless I groom her – again Spot’s job not mine). She still eats like a pig (I am sorry if any of the audience are pigs) but she is a bit of a piggy. She eats her breakfast and then will eat anyone else’s that she sees. Maui hasn’t itched in months. Do you all remember the embarrassment she suffered at the paws of that Spot impostor? Well for those of you who may not remember, Maui had explosive diarrhea and made all kinds of horrible bathroom noises.

I am happy to report that since coming to the Falls, no more explosions from Maui’s butt or noises. She has had an occasional bout of loose poo, it either resolved itself quickly or she pulled some slippery elm from her secret garden and that did the trick.

Maui spends a lot of time lounging on her deck chair enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. She hissed and hit Mr. Luigi a 9-month-old Boxer who dared to attempt to befriend her. Mr. Luigi went away very sad indeed. He watches her from afar and hopes that one day they can be friends.

Maui has her energy back, pep in her step and big bright eyes that are focused and understand everything that is going on around here.

She did tell me, before she kicked me out that, she is deeply saddened by the felines who did not make it to the Falls and instead went to Rainbow Bridge. She knows that they are where they need to be and wanted me to tell the mom and dad beans not to be sad. Instead, she wants them to be happy and celebrate their lives.

ALPHA! ALPHA! This is Maui. I want to know why you are standing on my deck in the rain talking about me. Do you not remember the confidentiality agreement you signed? I called the Feline Patrol and General Noisy and President Pelusa are on their way over here right now to talk to you.

Nevertheless, Maui, I am only telling your fans about how you spent this past month. I did not betray your confidences. OK, maybe just a bit, by bringing up the poopy report, but hey I’m a reporter and that’s what I do – report the news. The good, the bad and the smelly!

Fine, then I want to talk to my fans.

Hello everyone, this is Magnificent, Mahvellous Maui. I want you to know, I feel great! I look great! Moreover, I am great! Enough said. Now, who is ready for a party!

Oh Alpha, while you are standing there, please bring me a niptini and some turkey mole! Oh and make sure the chips are fresh and crisp. Not soggy like last time.

Yes, your Magnificence. Folks this is your Roving Reporter Alphabean still Maui’s servant – Spot hurry it up and take your job back. Now back to you in the studio.

Oh Hillary, I'm so sorry. There must be one raging party at the bridge, I'm sure every GA we have there has gone to welcome Maui onboard. You both have faced so much together, I know she is up there bragging on you and waiting for the day you are reunited. Dorje is in my lap as I type, all wet with tears. May you always feel Maui's indomitable spirit nearby.

Tears and purrs,
