Marbles went to kitty heaven today. When we got to the vet this morning, she was in critical condition (the vet was surprised she went downhill so fast from when she last saw her on Saturday, and that the IV fluids, anti-nausea shot they gave her yesterday at the emergency vet didn't improve her condition at all). After a few tests and multiple conversations as to what else it could be/what we could do for her, it still wasn't clear why Marbles' health was failing. The IV fluids were not helping, and with the vet's support I made the difficult decision to let her go as it was evident she probably wouldn't make it through the night.

I'm so glad that I got a little over 8 years with my sweet kitty, but devastated that she was so determined to leave me. Thank you to all the wonderful people on this forum who talked me through the diabetes diagnosis, insulin treatments, and of course the last few days during Marbles' decline. This has been a very emotional and difficult day for me. She was buried next her to "cousin" Peanut in my parent's backyard so I will be able to visit her often.

Oh, Jenny ...

My heart is aching for you. :YMHUG:

I am very sorry for your loss. You did your best for marbles and showed her so much love. now her spirit will fly free

Oh no, Jenny. How devastating to lose her so suddenly. I hope it brings you peace to realize what a wonderful life you gave her, including learning everything you could about diabetes and working hard to get her healthy. She was a lucky kitty to have you as her mom and to be in a warm safe home full of cuddles and pets, wonderful food and treats. ((hugs))

I'm SO sorry it was sweet Marbles time to cross - what a life of love she knew, THANK YOU! Remember - she's not gone, you just have to hug her differently.

Soar high on your new Angel wings Marbles...landing softly right back in your Mama's broken heart.

Oh Jenny I'm so sorry to hear this. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Jenny

I'm so sorry that it was time for Marbles to leave you, but she isn't really gone. She is just napping in a new place now. Instead of taking her naps on the couch or in your bed, she is now sleeping curled up around your heart. And she is purring so loudly because she is free of her failing body. That is why it hurts so bad right now, because she is there all nice and snuggly warm curled up around your heart purring away, well a human heart just isn't made to have a cat right next to it purring away. The vibrations cause it to hurt. As time goes by she will learn not to purr so loudly and some of the hurt will go away, but then you will have those days when she is very close to your thoughts and she will wake up and purr louder and it will hurt all over again. But slowly she will sleep longer and longer and when you pet her with your thoughts she will always wake right back up again, but she will also learn not to purr quite so loud, so the pain won't come as much. Until one day you realize that you just petted her with your thoughts and instead of her purring hurting, it will bring joy as you think back on all those precious memories that you two shared.

Be gentle with yourself during this sad time, some folks just won't get it, but we all do, so come here as often as you need to. And know you are not alone, we all are shedding tears right with you.

In time, when you and your heart are ready. Don't look back and cry because it is over, but smile because of you it happened at all. So many little furry babies go to sleep every night in a cold metal cage or sleep with one eye open in the wild. But because of you, Marbles knew only love, she knew it from the minute you two locked eyes and she knew it when she earned her wings and took flight.

Fly Free beautiful girl, and land ever so softly back in the heart of the one that loved you best.
