Mačka's first thread: AMPS 337 PMPS 560

Hello everybody!

Since yesterday all day and this morning, Mačka has stayed on a steady 330-350-ish, on Lantus 1.5U.
I couldn't thank everyone enough for their advice on persisting with this dose. He is doing better, sleeps less, drinks less, starts playing on his own (for a 15yo that's cool), purrs more and comes back to sleep on our bed.
I can breathe a little.

He's being fed 4 times a day small meals (about 2 cans/day). Fancy Feast beef classic seems to be the winner, so I'll stick to it for a while.

Tomorrow we have to leave at noon for 24 hours and I'm very anxious about it, as you can imagine. A professional cat sitter will come for the evening and morning glucose monitoring, feeding and insulin shot. I have my camera set up in the living room. I hope I'll be able to sleep in my hotel room :)

Once we're back, should we increase to 1.75? 2 units? I should be able to monitor next week (less work) and he should have his 2nd curve done at the vet at the end of next week.

I see in your spreadsheet that you have stopped the kibbles. That’s great news that he’s eating all wet food now. :) That can make a big difference in insulin requirement. The effects of stopping dry can take a few days to see, so it’ll be important to get a bit more testing in tonight and this weekend once you are back. I hope the petsitter can get some tests in.

Here is the link to your previous thread, for continuity http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...cent-dka-high-glycemia-on-lantus-1-5u.216093/

Also good news that he’s feeling better.

Thank you!

I have a question regarding neuropathy. Can it be reversed once diabetes is controlled? I can see Macka is a little week on his back legs :( What else could it be?

Yes, neuropathy can be reversed. I'd suggest you order Zobaline -- its available on Amazon. It's methyl-B12 that's packaged for diabetic cats so there's no issue with any sweetener that's been added.

Before you do anything with Macka's dose, let's see what the numbers look like once you're home.

His PMPS was high again :( 560. I do not understand. Does it have to do with me feeding him too many times Fancy Feast during the day? Is it too caloric?

It is probably not the food, especially now that you are feeding low carb. It is more likely that somewhere in the cycle today or last night, he saw a lower number than he is used to, and is now bouncing.
