My boy needs to be on a lysine supplement. Last night at midnight he had a coughing spell followed by wheezing. He has had a history of this since November and the vet has always said no asthma but kept hitting him with steroids and antibiotics.
I took him in to see his new vet who wasn't working today but I got another wonderful girl who examined his heart and lungs for a long time. Couldnt hear a murmur or any wheezing. Said that it is possible he may develop asthma but he may benefit by being on a supplement to get his immune system stronger. Also suggested putting a humidifier in his room when he sleeps and to alternate him with hot steam and cold air when he has coughing spells. Since these spells have been spaced out over the last four months, she doesn't want to put him on an inhaler just yet but that is our next step if he gets worse or if this gets more frequent. The only lysine supplements they had there were chews for $26 which I turned down because of the carbs that are probably in them. I said I would shop around to find one that best suits him. Who uses lysine that could assist me in making a decision?
