Hello-

On top of her asthma and newly diagnosed diabetes, my poor Mimi has come down with an URI. She is taking Orbax for this infection and today was her second dose of the antibiotic. Doctor also sent me home with saline drops for her nose, and Lysine and Amino B Complex to administer orally to help build her immune system. My concern is that I noticed that the first two inactive ingredients within both of these products is fructose which of course translates into sugar. As Mimi's BG numbers are always high and have yet to really come down, I am worried that the fructose within both of these products will make her sugar level worse. If anyone has any thoughts or advice please let me know. Using the Alpha Tracker 2, Mimi's BG is consistently in the high 400 to 500's which I know is horrific She is taking taking 2.75 units of Lantus. She also takes flovent for her asthma twice daily though tonight was her first treatment using the AeroKat chamber and I want to say that this procedure was a nightmare...............well............at least she was strong enough to fight me :) So, I'm wondering if at this point building the immune system with the Lysine and Amino B complex is more of a priority than her already high BG numbers, or if I should be worried about giving her these products and sending a 488 BG reading sailing into the 600's.

Thank you for your help.

Tracy

Tracy I was sitting here wondering how youtwo were doing.
Im sorry Mimi has multiple problems you'll take them down one by one.
I cant speak to the Lysine and Amino B Complex others will be able too. Remembet to REWARD her with treats when doing the aerokat. I cradle over Fritz and place the aerokat over his nose he fights by rocking his head back and forth. Be careful not to push the part that seals the nose directly into the nose cutting off breathing because they will fight to breath.
You can actually wstch the little green flat open and close as she breaths. If its not opening and closing she won't the flovent is not be breathed in. The more you do it and she benefits she'll calm down realizing it helps her.

I appreciate you saying that I would knock down her issues one by one. Right now I feel like every time I turn around she gets bombarded with something else and its going to be too much for her. Your comment gave me hope.

Thank you. How often to do give prednisone?
Are you doing both the inhaled steroid and oral steroid? The areokat cat takes time but its worth it just shower them with love after each spray, it gets easier with time. Wish I could comment on the other stuff one of turbos first vets was very pro lysine and was suggest we get the powder form and add some to their meals.

At this time I am only using the inhaled steroid. She was on oral prednisone for ten months in which I had compounded into a gel that was applied on her inner ear but it is believed that the prolonged use of the steroid contributed to her diabetes and so she has not taken it since end June when she was diagnosed with diabetes. Thoughts?

The prednisone only negative side effect on turbo is that it made her a plus size kitty model.Like most drugs some just affect others more negatively, with houdini I am begining to believe the 2 depo-medrol injections may have induced his diabetes they were given to him for the inflammation in mouth from stomatitus. His first vet said it usually takes years to see side effects houdidni was more likely already borderline diabetes. Thankfully just the diet change, has made him stable enough that I have not needed to give him insulin in over a week (knock on wood). As for turbo the inhaled cortico steroid takes a few days to begin really helping her. Do what you can to reduce other allergens, high pollen count days have her looking miserable and me needing to give her rescue inhaler. Day by day she will get better just keep showering them with love.

I believe that Mimi was predestined to be diabetic and that the prednisone pushed her over the edge. Her brother makes Mimi look anorexic and his numbers are normal. I'm taking her back to the vet today. So happy your furry baby has been insulin free for week now :) and you are right.....lots of love.
