Hi all. I am looking for some input about Kitten. She has asthma and a lung mass. Given about 6 mos to live..but I am pulling for a year. She has appt next week (on cancellation list for earlier appt) for a recheck with her IM specialist at the hospital. Kitten will have another chest xray done and address her increased coughing and possible med change.
I think Kitten may have develpoed a URI. Her sx. are left runny eye which happens when she is not feeling well. She has interest in food, but her appetite has declined alot the last few days. She is sleeping more, and she is wheezing alot and has a wet short cough. The cough is after pilling, after eating a little, stress, waking up from a nap.nThe little coughs can go into an asthma attack.
I spoke with her doctor last week but was told to come in for chest xray. the sx are a little worse now. I called hospital tonight and they will not prescribe anything until tomorrow(has to be a doctor that has seen her before, that is a new one. They are just getting sick of me.)
Should I start her on a course of Doxy just in case? She was on liquid Clavomax(amoxicllin) for two weeks after her discharge from the hospital on the 8th. This contributed to some major diarrheah. Does the doxy affect BG numbers? The doctor tonight said I can give her the 9pm dose of insulin tonight if I get 10ccs in her. She has nibbled today on and off and I spoon fed her some warm Beechnut. We could force a BG reading tonight< but the other day she went into an attack becausw we pricked her.
Any advice on the doxy and shot tonight. Thanks

The wet cough sounds more like pulmonary congestion, possibly due to the mass causing fluid buildup. If it worsens, you may need to take her to an emergency vet.

How much doxycycline do you have - enough for a full course? Unless the answer is yes, I wouldn't do it.

I have a full bottle 100mg pills... Last vet said to take 50 mg once a day. Her rescue inhaler breaths are making her cry which she ususally takes 6 breaths. It is hurting her. Unusual

If you've got enough doxy, it may help if the problem is infectious.

I'm thinking it may not be asthma causing the breathing problem. I'm thinking it is a cardiopulmonary issue that could become respiratory failure.

Lynn PM'd me and asked if she should shoot a reduced dose since Kitten is not eating well.

It's difficult to tell you without being able to see some numbers on her SS, Lynn. She had DKA and so it's not a good idea to skip a shot. I have no idea what she's doing today. If she's high, I'd give her the full dose and syringe food. If she's low, you still need to
get some insulin in her and you still should syringe food.

However, the bottom line is, if it were my kitty and she were in any kind of respiratory distress, I'd take her to the ER especially with her history.

Hi all..I started the antibiotic in case of a secondary URI. I also have been working on her increasing her rescue puffs to her usual dose. This will help open airways to get more air in though it may not feel so great for her as it is going in. We gave her a skinny dose per hospital doctor's recommendation. So 1/2 unit short. we just ear pricked her and she lost her ever loving mind. Missed the blood again. We will try again when she calms down. her BPM is normal and there is no wheezing right now. A dry cough is more typical with fluid buildup I just read. Her doctor is aware that she had been wet coughing and being picky with eating. She is stable right now. I am getting some food into her now. Unfortunately, Kitten's asthma sx do include a wet cough and asthma kittie's and are prone to secondaey URI's. That is why I have the Doxy..followed by water ofcourse. It is time for her immunosuppresant pill and here other inhaler soon. I am going to have to work slow with her tonight. How fast does the stress increase th BG reading? If kitten is growling and hissing and jerking around, how fast would it effect the BG? would this reading be useless? I really need more blood with her ,as she is jerking her head so much. I will try the warm pill bottle but her ears where very warm from her bed? Why cant she bleed like our other cat??

there should be three numbers on her SS.. my laptop caught a virus form a DL and when I click on Kitten's SS, the computer crashes. I will look from my iphone. I know three numbers is not alot, but there should be a few.
