I seem to remember seeing a mention about cats lying in the sun can affect their glucose. Is that true and would it be up or down? Dirty Butt is in her favorite spot in sun coming through the window. It can get pretty warm, but she just loves it.

All my cats love lying in the sun. There is quite a competition between them for room on the windowsill and in front of the sliding glass door. I haven't read anything about it affecting their glucose. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. These sugarcats sure keep us wondering.

Usually there is no effect from doing some "sun-bathing". When temperatures are very high it can cause dehydration which can affect glucose levels. Also high humidity can affect kitties with breathing problems which could impact glucose levels. Other than that sunshine and kitties are a perfect match. :)

Here in Austin Tx, during the summer, if our cats bathed in the sun then they would be baked in about an hour :)

Winters - they love the sun. It doesn't seem to affect the diabetic kitty Leo.

I just tested her at 3:15 PM and it was 335, a disappointment. The .5 unit is so tiny, I wondered at the time if I got it in her since I'm still not very skilled with the needle. Anyway, the insulin was at 9:30 AM and the test was at 3:15 PM, so 5 hours. She has eaten almost a whole Fancy Feast can of food today in 2 meals (the last at 1:00 PM), so I don't know how that affects the numbers. She seems happy and normal.

Food is fine in limited quantities. It is best to have no food for 2 hours then test. So it looks like a good reading. Yes, that is a small amount of insulin. If you ever "miss", or do a "fur shot", then do not give more insulin. Some insulin may accidentally get into DB, and if you gave him more then it could overdose her. In summary:
- fur shot or missed skin, then do not give more insulin until next 12 hour interval
