I have been trying to catch a urine stream for keto test and Tom has been unusually uncooperative for the last week or so. Every time I enter the bathroom when I know he's gone in his box he leaves...and this will happen 2 or 3 times in a row. He's more willing to hold it in than pee in front of me. Tom is typically so cooperative and lets me do whatever i need to do to him.
Just now i followed him in for the 2nd time and he layed down in his box :o
He could not be coerced out either. He just lay there.
Is this possibly defiance? Has anyone else had their kitty lie down in the litter box???

i've only had them lie down in the box when they were pretty sick or if another cat was cornering them there.

is he otherwise acting healthy?

yep, other than the fact that he's having many soft stools a day due in part I think to the antibiotics he was on. Now he's on probiotics. The stools alone make me think he may not be feeeling that great. but his 5 p's are in order. his eatting is with less gusto but he has not skipped a meal.
I just caught a sample! negative ketones!
Cindy I did a stupie and gave him plain yogurt as a probiotic.
The carb count was good, only 7 carbs per cupfull. But 19 grams of sugar too. We paid for it with a zoom.

When we go on car trips, Oscar's safe zone is his litter box. He lays down in there and will not come out for the hours of the car trip unless the car is stopped. It could be that he thinks of the walls of the litter box as a safe zone and you can't get to him there

I have only seen it when they don't feel well at all, related to kidney/urinary issues, and I've seen it more as meatloafing in the box, rather than sprawled out in comfort or anything like that. Hopefully that is not Tomtom's reason. :)

I don't know if it was tom-i-tude or if he really is'nt feeling well.
I wish things were going easier for him..it's one thing after the other.
I do think he's got a yeast infection from the antibiotics..in his intestinls and maybe in his bladder too.
I'll give it another day or so of probiotic's before I really worry about it...and then what?
Another vet visit?
To cure him of the cure he just had?

But let's hope he was giving me Tom-i-Tude for insisting on watching him pee. :-D

Joanna he just had a full blood work up and a urine sample. would kidney issues show up in the blood work?
everything came back good. In the morning he crys lately. just walks around crying. I never know what it is...I follow him around seeing what he may want...we just walk around and I don't know what he's crying about but I can tell he wants me to follow him.
The only other time he ever does this is for food..but now it's in the bedroom and bathroom.
PLease don't let him be sick dear god...I can't believe he can't catch a break.

Kidney issues do show up in the blood work.
My Babibear just had full blood work done and the vet called yesterday and said he has kidney failure in both kidneys. (He is not diabetic)
I am pretty upset right now. I will know more today of what can be done to try to save him.

Also things can change drastically. 10 days after Gingers blood work that didnt show anything drastically bad, she had total kidney failure and no hope of survival because of other issues caused by the kidney failure and high blood sugar.
We put her to sleep in October.

oh my... , that is sad. Sorry to hear about your Ginger and now Babybear. Did you have any symptom's? Other than lying in a litter box?

His electrolytes may be out of balance if he has been peeing a lot.

I'd take him in to the vet, as he may need supportive measures.

Babibear is not laying in the litter box. You wouldnt even know by looking at him that he is sick.
He just didnt seem himself and was eating and drinking less.
I just noticed he wasnt having good bowel movements and seemed constipated, so I took him to the vet.

Ginger did lay in the litter box. She was very sick and extremely weak.
Her electrolytes were very high when I rushed her to the ER.

please everyone...tom is having soft, very soft bm's. his appetite is tepid but he is getting all of his meals in. he's not a hoover right now but more of a grazer.
i'm getting those probiotics in the morning.
please don't let's get all worked up. we can't go back to the vet. not now.
i am thinking he just maybe has yeast from 2 weeks on antibiotics ok?
i don't want to be scared, i really don't.
i just want tom ok.
he is drinking which he has'nt done in years. on top of really wet food.
peeing pooping preening purring and playing..sort of.
just have good thoughts k.
lori and tomtom too!

One way I got a urine sample was having a clean litter box with clean aquarium gravel in it.
I placed it in the bathroom with the cat and a bowl of water, closed the door and waited until she pee'd in the box.

If you only have one cat, you can just do that but put the new box where the old one was.
I had 3 cats at the time.

Lori I always get my sample...tom is usually very good about that. he let me get a fresh out of the stream urine sample in a medical vial for urinalysis! he's very good about letting me do whatever i want to him.
just lately is tired of constant ketone testing.
his last urinalysis was just a few weeks ago...it was clear.
and tom hard a hard poopy this morning! YAY! :RAHCAT

and NEWS ALERT ....Tom just ate ALL of his breffis in a single sitting. cat_pet_icon

last night I had to finger feed him his rabbit and break it into itty bitty pieces as he seemed to choke on each bite...I realized I did not know the Heimlicht manuver for cats! he obviously is having some trouble chewing or swallowing. it broke my heart. but this mornings fish and shrimp (ff) gravied up with some water went down nicely. on his own.
