lumps on kitten legs?

Hi everyone
It's been a few months since I've been here. The kittens (Finnegan & Oliver) are still doing great-little 6mo old monsters they are!
I noticed around Thanksgiving that Finnegan has a series of bumps on his hind right leg. Each one is about the size of an eraser head, but they are not defined, they more blend into one another, but it doesn't seem like one single lump either. They start right around his knee and go up into the thigh area. They don't seem painfull at all.
Anyone have any ideas? Of course, my mind went straight to VAS, since they did have shots just before I got them in August. Although I looked up his records and they were given the purevax vaccine.
They are going to the vet on Friday to get tested for FELV/FIV now that they are over 6 months old, and I'll have the vet look at his leg.
Any thoughts?
Jennifer

Is he scratching at that area at all? I'm glad you're going to the vet. Could be a flea or food allergy, spider bite, could be nothing, but still good to check out. Take note when you go, let the vet know if there was any scabbing, breaking of the skin or if these are just under the skin. Never know what the vet might need to know. I often write things on paper so I don't forget to tell the vet.

Since they don't seem painful I'm going to assume not an allergy, I'd think if he were scratching or biting at it you'd see redness. I'd be interested to hear what the vet says.

I have my first young kitty in a very long time and I cannot believe the things he gets into, I imagine it must be doubly crazy with two young ones

Thanks
no scratching, biting, oozing, bleeding, crusty, or redness. Nothing like that, just lumps in the skin-they do seem under the skin, but not attached to muscle or anything.
They are crazy monsters. I'm glad I got 2 of them to entertain eachother. So is my poor lab!

I am usually one of the first to warn about getting checked for VAS so I am glad you are getting it looked into, but it really doesn't sound like it to me(and of course I hope I am right). I don't have a clue what else it could be except a bug bite or some kind of cysts. Do let us know what the vet says.

Thanks Jill! I'm so happy to hear that it doesn't sound like VAS.
I'll still mention it to the vet just to get it looked at.
After losing Korbel & Calypso so close together, I think I'm almost expecting
Something bad

Well, we went to the vet today.
She checked the lump-shaved the leg and noticed the skin was a bit red.
Aspirated some cells-got lots of blood out.
Under the microscope there were lots of red cells, plus neutrophils and eosinophils, but no bacteria.
Right now we're thinking an allergic reaction to something or an infection.
I'm treating him with amoxidrops and a topical steroid cream. If it's not better in a week, then we'll remove it and send it in for pathology.
Thanks

Tilly my kitten had something similar last winter. I took her to the vet , she did a scrapping - no bacteria either. Not that red, just felt bumpy. We just treated it for a week with Clavamox, not sure that was really needed. Vet suggested a steroid shot, but I didn't do it because the area didn't look she was scratching it. I kept checking her and eventually the bumps went away. So, not sure what the heck it was! Just went away on it's own! That's always good. Hopefully, the meds will do the trick for your kitty.

Sandy - Dottie, Jeter & Tilly (former bumpy leg girl!)
