We just got back from the vet; Lulu's BG reading was 21.1, 6 hours post injection, weight stable. The vet has told me to increase her a.m. dosage to 2 units of Lantus, remain with 1 unit at night. She was also very supportive about my home testing, and asked that I test at 4 - 5 hours after her injections and email her the results. I also got a copy of her lab results from Mar 13 and posted them by adding another tab in her spreadsheet. I'd also like to do one of those curves I've read about on here, once I get more efficient at ear-poking.

I did try to move her to a completely canned diet yesterday, but it ended up giving her a case of the runs, so I will slowly decrease her dry food and increase the canned over the next several days.

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

That all sounds like a good idea, especially changing the food more slowly. Some cats definitely have problems with quick food changes. Make sure to keep an eye on her BG readings throughout the day as changing food can effect her BG numbers.

Testing somewhere between 4-6 hours after a Lantus injection will help you find Lulu's nadir, the lowest BG reading in her shot cycle. Adjustments to her Lantus dose will be made depending on her nadir BG readings (her preshot BG numbers just let you know if it is safe to give her a shot).

It sounds like you have a wonderful supportive vet. It is somewhat odd to give different doses of Lantus in the a.m. and the p.m. (Though, come to think of it, your vet may be trying that since you are better able to monitor her during the day when she will be on the higher dose). Do you free feed or feed on a schedule?

I was surprised as well when she upped only the morning dosage, but I am able to monitor her during the day and have taped the instructions on hypos on my fridge (have also read many times). I have three kitties and feed them all at about 7:00 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m. I also give Lulu reward treats when I give her a shot, or bribe treats when I want to poke her ear (the others get their treats after I brush them).
