Lucky got into the dry food!

I have been very anal about her NOT getting the dry food. During the day I put up the dry so she can be around the other cats. When she goes into eat I usually put the dry food down and will take it up when everyone is done eating. And then I let her out. I had the door locked so cats couldn't get out to go downstairs. I let her out because the door was locked and she couldn't get downstairs. I went to the bathroom, and when I came back the whole door was open! I ran downstairs to find her coming out from the room where the cat food was. I wasn't sure if she had eaten anything or not at first, but upstairs she started licking her mouth and cleaning her face and paws. So I'm pretty sure she got into some of it. angry(2)_cat The door must not have been latched properly and she's smart enough to paw the bottom of the door and pull it open. The cat door itself was still locked so cat's couldn't go out or in, but the door it is in, was open :( So what happens now? I plan on testing her in 2 hours to check her blood sugar levels. Is this going to ruin her remission? :sad: But this would be the first time she's had any dry since she was diagnosed. Hoping that maybe I'm wrong and she didn't eat any of it.
 
One meal should do any harm - but you can help her out by giving her the lowest carb food you can for a day to offset it? Grilled homemade plain chicken or something.

Last Sunday my MurrFee opened (ate through) a back of dog treats. The bag was four ounces and I thin he ate over three ounces. It skyrocketed his BG to over 300 and he did not want to eat dinner and he acted sick. NotHigh BG next morning and did not really want to eat either.
 
I don't think she ate much as right before this happened she ate. But she's not eating as much as she used to. But eating MUCh more than she had been the last few days. I may have to find another food to give her. I think she's getting tired of fancy feast. I know she loves the seafood ones, but she can't have those as she's allergic to anything seafood.
 
One bad meal shouldn't hurt her, you might see a spike in BG but I'm sure it'll come back down. My cats had started to get bored with the FF chicken classic so I got them some FF chicken and liver and they really love that now. I'm going to change back and forth every week to keep them interested.
 
I buy all flavors of Fancy feast except those with Liver flavor and seafood. And she never gets the same flavor twice in a row. So I may have to supplement with some other brands of food. I found a cat food calculator for my android phone. It helps you calculate the carbs in cat foods. Not sure how accurate it is. But there are some foods I've seen at my petfood warehouse here that I'm wondering what carbs are in those. They are not much more expensive than fancy feast. Tho by my calculator on my phone some of them are under 6 grams of carbs. But not sure how well I can trust the nutrition info on those cans.
 
I wouldn't trust the cans - they are minimum guaranteed - doesn't mean they can't go way over that. Remission is so fragile - you don't want to mess with it. If its not on Dr Piersons list I wouldn't take the chance. Chance of a second remission is much lower.
 
I've looked at the list and there isn't that many on the list with a ton of flavors for 6 grams of carbs or under. As I am looking at many of them online, there's one I might be able to squeek into my budget, and that's proplan. They have 3 flavors. Otherwise I think she's gonna have to deal with the fancy feast.
 
The good thing is both my cats like FF and I was able to switch them both so I don't have to worry about other foods in the house. Once remission is achieved I would be very scared to try any new food. Dusty better get use to FF because I know it works and I'm not taking any chances!
