Hi everyone just looking for some feedback on my boy Argyle. He was diagnosed about 1 1/2 ago & I have been able to get him much more stable on Lantus. We have recently had some lows & last Sunday he was preshot 39...lowest I have ever had him be with no signs of hypo. I have decreased his dosage of Lantus & I test him at least twice a day. I am testing more often lately b/c of his lows as he is tending to have at least 1 number on the lower side most typically 50's but then his next testing will be higher in the 200's. II don't free feed & he is getting the same food at both meals. I am just trying to figure out how to get this more stablized. I also have some concern that he may be tending towards hyperthyroidism. Does anyone have experience in how this can effect blood sugar?

When he was at 39, did you do the injection or skip it?

Hyperthyroidism typically makes it harder to regulate the cat. We have had people do it with hyperT cats, so it's not a huge roadblock. Are you having your cat's T4 tested?
I skipped the injection & just continued to monitor him.

I have had other hyperthryroid cats but never diabetic. I spoke to the vet & we are going to blood test him but I just wondered if this could be impacting his varying blood sugars right now. He had an infection a few weeks ago & it sent his #'s high.

Quintus is hyperT but it seems he was an easy customer when it came to FD, so maybe not representative.

The check was pre-feeding so I immediately fed him & also gave a little honey on his gums. He started to go up w/in 15-20 minutes.
