Hello everyone,
I have a question and that is: has anyone listed the lower(lowest) carb% for dry food here? I have found plenty of info on wet food and that is my primary food for my 2 cats (1 has FD) but while fancy feasts are great for individual servings for each, I need a low carb dry for grazing as I have discovered Shadow, my 10 yr old diabetic, comes down stairs and raids Callie, my 2 yr old healthy cat, food because she is smaller and does not eat as much in a sitting. While I am at work, they are on their own for about 10 hrs. and are hungry when I come home but I need to wait about 45 min to an hour before I can feed them and give Shadow her shot. I give them a couple of treats when I arrive, but I want Shadow to have a chance to eat if she feels the need to and it helps me monitor her levels by her hunger as well as other means. Wet food for grazing concerns me that I might have to throw out the leftovers nightly or find spew when I come home. A low carb dry would solve most of these problems but other than the universal statement to feed your cats only wet food, I cannot find anything like I have seen with the carb breakdown for wet food. Has anyone done such a thing, or will I have to muster through on my own. Any info one way or the other would be a great help.

Thanks.

Thanks Larry but ouch! $50 for 8lbs. is pricey. Too pricey for what I can afford even if the food may last a couple of months before I need to buy more. I appreciate the info and will keep it in mind as a last ditch choice, but I hope I can find one a little less costly.

Janet and Binky's food chart has dry food, but has not been updated so recent foods like YoungAgain are not on it and the carb count has not been updated. In general people seem to like Evo too. Wyson is a food sometimes cited as low carb, but I don't think anyone has been able to find out its actual carb count (other than from the manufacturer which tends to be unreliable) and it has some questionable ingredients.

Sorry but since it is generally not recommended, even for non diabetic cats, we don't stay as up to date on dry food.

Thanks for the info. The Wellness Core type I had purchased before but not the variety shown to be the lowest. So I will give it a try. Better price as well so thanks again.

Nature's Variety Chicken with the Raw Coating (not raw pieces) is 12.5% Carbs. Evo chicken and turkey is 12% carbs according to their labels.

The numbers for Wellness are out of date; a post in the last year or so indicated the carb content of the Wellness dry was around 17% calories from carbohydrates.

Wysong Epigen is zero carb, and cheaper then Young Again, easier to buy (available many places) and comes in 3 flavors. My guy's initial blood sugar was 600 and ho got off insulin in around 10 days on the stuff.

Good morning!
thanks for everyone's help. I went and purchased Nature's variety instinct even though it roughly has 20% using the formula here on the site. Since it is still far lower than other dry foods and I will put out only 2-3 doz bits of kibble at a time, I hope to keep the sugars low and negate any large spikes in her blood sugars with this. I'll use it for the overnights first to see if there're any problems. This is a great resource! Gigantically awesome kudos to the host for bringing all this knowledge and support together!! :-D

I used to feed my cat that. It was the previous formula that had slightly lower carbs than the current formula. The carbs in it are too high. My guy quickly went OTJ when I switched him to Wysong Epigen.

You could take a canned low carb foodN spread it on a baking sheet, and bake it until dry.

Of course, the home will smell like baking meat ...
