Hello all! Just wondering if someone could take a look at Bell’s SS and help me figure out her nadir, and maybe tell me why she is getting lower numbers PMPS than what she is having in the middle of the day, it’s making it hard to dose her in the evening, we tried the .25 last night but probably should’ve went with the .50, just wanted to see how that worked at 154 rather than chancing her dropping to low, I just don’t get how her numbers are going, the more I look for some sort of pattern on the SS, the more my head hurts, got a feeling she will be lower tonight at PMPS, any dosing advice for the lower numbers GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Sharon....this forum can move fast so if you've waited a reasonable length of time and nobody has replied yet, make a new comment on your own thread so it brings it back to the top again.

With all the dose changes, it's really impossible to guess at where her nadir might be. While Vetsulin can be doses on a sliding scale, it's usually better to give the same dose both AM and PM.

I'm pretty sure we have discussed stalling with you before....like last night...She went from 131 at +11 to 154 at PMPS....since the number came up, I'd suggest stalling another 20-30 minutes and see if it continued going up. If it did, that's a real good sign that the last shot is wearing off and the numbers are just going to continue to climb (which they did).

I know you're scared out of your mind about hypo's, but as long as you are able to test and have plenty of supplies, YOU are in control of her blood glucose.

Sure would like to see her on a better insulin but let's see how she does with a consistent dose....maybe try 1.5 and see if that allows you to get 2 shots in 12 hours apart

Thanks, I will start the 1.5 in the am, I am scared of hypos, the thought of my cat having a seizure or anything else happening to her is terrifying, I don’t t do well in those types of situations, to much anxiety and my husband is not always home. As for the stalling, the longer she waits for her food the more irritated she gets, you could call her hangry lol, but she is harder to test, sorry for the questions, I would love to have her on a different insulin but when I went to pick up her new bottle from the vet and just asked about the prozinc they looked at me like I was crazy and just said we don’t have it. Other vets in our area are extremely high, the vet I’m seeing now I’ve only been to twice as our wonderful, loving vet of 20+ yrs passed away last December

Remember, Sharon, that you can always post here for help.

Tip: Should there ever be a time when you need help urgently and Feline Health is quiet, try asking for help on the Lantus support group's board. It's usually busy but many of the members who post there don't visit Feline Health so would not see the initial request for help.
