Lower bgs causing loose bowels?

Lila has been having some quite low readings of late and it seems when this happens her stool becomes much softer and quite pale too. We have just started her on some pumpkin puree. We are also having to reduce insulin dose gradually at the moment to try and get some safer numbers. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas re bowels and low bgs. We presume it's a good sign that bgs are lower, but could lower bgs be a symptom of illness?. She seems reasonably well and is eating well although could do with putting on some weight probably, she is only 7.25 lbs now.

I don't think the low BG's are affecting the bowel movements. On the other hand I have seen bowl movements affect the BG's if constipated.

Presume constipation would lead to high bgs? Just hoping the reverse maybe be the case with lower bgs causing looser stools. Lila is going several times a day at present. I remember this happened immediately she had her first couple of insulin injections right at the beginning following diagnosis. Since then we have had mainly well formed solid stools. As Lila is 17y now we are mindful that other things could be going on of course. So anxious to find if the lower bgs are causing bowel issue or of course the loose bowels could be the actual cause of lower bgs if food is passing through too quickly?

This may be something you need to ask your vet about, if it's continuing and worrying you. Does Lila seem otherwise herself? I wonder also if it might be food-related... I was feeding my civvie her usual food earlier this year then suddenly she started having upset tummy episodes... I stopped the food and that seeemed to do the trick. Sometimes manufacturers change the formulation of foods, eg balance of ingredients, actual ingredients, source of ingredients, and this can be enough to cause digestive issues. You don't say how long this has been going on but I'd suggest watchful waiting and give your vet a call if you feel something's not right.

Thanks, Yes could be food related possibly. Lila had an isolated acute episode about 2 months ago. Since then she has been mainly ok until about 2 weeks ago in line with the lower bgs arriving. Lila is reasonably well considering her age although does not seem able to put any weight on. The paler colour of stool is the strange bit and that was a definite response to insulin introduction a year ago and the vet at the time confirmed it was her pancreas responding to the insulin introduction. Hence our thoughts that it could be her body reacting to too much insulin now (just possibly).
