Low PMPS Do I still shoot?

Sorry that you didn't get a faster answer, Sharlyn .

The best thing to do is cases like this is to Stall, don't feed and test again in 20-30 minutes to see if the number goes up without food. Usually if it does, it's OK to go ahead and shoot but we do like to have somebody with experience who's willing and able to stay online with you as long as necessary the first few times you shoot a lower Pre-shot.

Stalling 20-30 minutes can be made up easily the next day to get you back on your chosen shot schedule.

Just an FYI....since you have 2 diabetic cats, it'll be faster if you say which one you're asking about in your post ;) I understand this one is Perty!

I saw you had decided to skip which is OK too. Next time, don't panic...just don't feed, post with a really clear subject line like "STALLING! NEED HELP!" (it usually works...LOL) and test again in 20-30 minutes.

One important thing to remember about Levemir....a lot of times, the lowest number of the day will be the Pre-Shot so you have to try to remember that you're not shooting the number she's at now...you're shooting the number she'll be at in 3-4 hours (during which time she would have been fed her regular meal at least before the next shot starts to "kick in")

OK, I'm back.

You don't have enough data yet to shoot 109 on an AlphaTrak, it's far lower than any other number you've shot. So it looks like you're skipping tonight!

The only exception: if there is a recent history of DKA or ketones that is not on the spreadsheet or in your signature, we can work a little to see if she comes up enough to shoot. This means stalling (without food if you haven't already fed) and re-testing 30mins after the last test (which would probably be about now).

Even if you skip, I'd test again in an hour or so, just to make sure she's not still dropping. Especially with Levemir (with its long duration and late nadirs), they can surprise you!

And just for the next time, any time you get a low (or high) number you weren't expecting, it's not a bad idea to re-test. Sometimes you do get a bad strip and it throws the numbers off.

I should have stated which one. I’m sure it’s confusing with me having two kitties. I actually use the Relion prime meter with Perty because she bleeds much better for me so I am able to use it for her. I will check her again before bed. She hasn’t had any history of DKA or ketones. She did have pancreatitis about 2 months ago when she was diagnosed. Thank you so much for your help

Thank you so much! I’m still not sure how to go about doing the posts but I’m learning.

You might also want to consider posting in the Lantus, Basaglar & Levemir forum. You'll get the most experienced eyes watching for you there.

It will help if you'll "name" your spreadsheet links too (Like mine says "China's SS")
To do that, open your Signature box here and open both spreadsheets in other tabs.
Delete the current spreadsheet links.
Type in "Chester's SS"
Go back and "highlight" the words "Chester's SS" (like you were going to copy/paste them).
Click on the icon along the top that looks like a paper clip or a link in a chain. A new little box will open.
Go to Chester's actual spreadsheet and copy the link. Paste it into that new little box and hit "Insert".

Repeat with Percy's

That way we'll be able to quickly open the right spreadsheet for the right cat
