Hi I am hoping for some advice from you lovely cat people before Smokey and I go back to the vet. Diagnosed 2 months ago, 2 units of lantus a day with home testing. His numbers were always above 100 until this past week. I tested with the ear prick on 2 different meters and its reading 40's pre- meal to 60's post meal, instead of 130-160. So I stopped the insulin, but does that severe drop happen with remission? The change to wet food from dry I'm sure made a difference, and he's acting normal! Thank you all so much for reading this and for any clues to help us!

Wonderful numbers, you were right to stop insulin. Keep testing and once Smokey goes 14 days without insulin he is in remission and I feel that is exactly where you are headed. He will always be a diet controlled diabetic so keep feeding him low carb wet food. Congratulations.

Bernie, thank you so much! Seeing such a drop had me panicked. I really appreciate your kind reply, and can breathe again

40's are totally normal for a non-diabetic cat....it's when we're giving insulin that we get a little nervous about them!

When I've tested my 2 civvies, I've gotten numbers in the high 30's! Had to resist the urge to grab the syrup!....LOL

The numbers you are seeing are perfectly normal, don't panic. As long as you are not giving insulin to Smokey there isn't any chance he will go too low. Some kitties function well on a BG in the 40's.
You've helped me immensely, Bernie! Thank you!

Thank you C&C! I did have the syrup nearby!
