LOW measurement

Leia just measured 49, I measured at the time I thought would be her low point. She ate some carb food for me, but should I do Karo? She appears to be fine, I use the Relion Confirm which some have said lowers low readings a bit. I have a call into the vet, obviously we probably want to lower her dose.

Test every 1/2 hour until you see several readings that continue to climb or remain steady. If the next reading is lower you may need to give the karo. 49 is actually in the normal range for non-diabetic cats, but since there is a possibility that the BG will drop more you need to monitor it.

Leia's at 50 now an hour later and she ate some more dry food, at least it hasn't gone down. We are at 6 hours past insulin which is longer than her usual low point. She is not lethargic, and was grumpy and mad about the testing. She is usually better, but it took me a bunch of pokes this time :( . The vet said test at another hour and call back, no Karo yet. Of course, watch her. I am not surprised about this, I was expecting her dose to need lowering. Little bugger.

Sorry, just saw this since I've been busy with her, the vet, etc. She's on Lantis 4 1/2, at noon, but will probably be lowered to 3 for her next dose. I will retest at 7:30 and we expect it will be a higher reading by then. She has eaten twice for me since the first reading, the dry food is the best I can do for a carb since the wet food is too fatty for her and the tuna I give her is just protein. She seems to have gotten over her bad mood since she was purring and flexing in her bed.

For future reference you can add some Karo to canned food to give it the carb boost, or make a quick flour, water, tuna gravy to get carbs in.

The dry you gave may kick up her evening pre-shot and that is normal.

Thank you for the idea, which I wouldn't have thought of, adding flour to her tuna would definitely work, as I'm sure she'd eat that. If I want to entice her giving her the tuna at an "extra" time would thrill her, and I doubt she'd complain about a little flour in it. Or Karo syrup, if needed.
