Low evening pre shot numbers - Tight regulation?

Hi there,
Hopefully I've done the spreadsheet in my signature correct and it's accessible. Coco's numbers have been for the most part consistently low in the evenings and I've not been giving her a shot but I'm wondering if I should be starting a tight regulation or have I been right not to shoot. I have also reduced her dose from 2 units to 1 over the last while, but she has just been getting it most days in the morning only.

Her curve was done in Feb and when I asked my vet about it (it was really a flat line, not a curve and she used to have very pronounced curves with a high start and end number in the 20's) she simply said that it's because I'm not feeding the DM wet (we're using FF pates). Sigh. I also asked to about her low numbers in the evening and if I should be giving her a shot and she said yes, give her the full 2 units (sigh again).

I'd love to get some input from others to see if I'm on track with what I'm doing or if I should be doing something else (shoot low to stay low?).

Thanks!!

Coco looks like she's responding really well to the Lantus.:)

Whether you choose SLGS or TR is really up to you. If Coco is eating any dry food, you do have to stick with SLGS. TR also requires that you get the two preshot tests, plus at least one other per cycle, and that includes the night time cycle. Many cats go lower at night, and we make dosing decisions based on how low the dose takes the cat, hence the need to see what's happening at night. If you can get at least those 4 tests per day and are feeding only low carb wet or raw, TR is an option. TR would also allow you to shoot lower numbers. With SLGS, you don't shoot under 90. And then only if you can monitor and have the data to do so.

If you do find your self skipping one of the shots a lot, it's probably a better idea to reduce. I think I'd suggest you try 0.75 units and see if that helps you get two shots a day in. One other request, if you end up skipping, could you put either Skip or NS (no shot) in the Units cell, so we know you skipped the shot, instead of just forgetting to enter the data.

If possible, do you think you could add a few more things to your signature? Details in this post: New? How You Can Help Us Help You!

Thanks very much for your advice. She does get 2 tablespoons of Young Again dry per day and with my work schedule I can see that TR probably won't work for us. If this trend continues of her not needing an evening shot tonight with the 1 unit in the am I will go ahead and try the .75 to see if we can get back to doing the 2 a day.

I'll update my spreadsheet to add the skip or ns as well. Thanks again!!
