It seems we swung the other way. I gave him a 1/4 unit dose this morning was at 80 PSPM. He didn't eat quite as much today and yesterday - maybe due to vomiting. I left a straw toy down the other day, and he must have munched on it pretty good. Other than fluid, the vomit was mainly bits of straw - and a decent sized hairball this morning. Also, I kinda feel like maybe the newness of the wet food is wearing off, and he is going back his grazing style of eating. I would appreciate any thoughts.

Hairball processing can put them off eating. Now that its gone, maybe the appetite will pick up again. If no food for 2 days, take him to the vet.

Maybe it is time to consider a drop of insulin. Pull up .25 of colored water and let drops out as you count. Once you know how many drops are in .25, the next time you shoot, you can draw up .25 and then let out all drops until the last one, then shoot it.

The other choice here is to chase the number, if you can be around. Watch till he gets to the 180-200 range and shoot. Then watch until he gets there again, which should be over 12 hours. The idea is to give insulin more than 12 hours apart but get him before he gets in the 200+ range.

If chasing the number isn't possible and the drop won't work, I guess go back to one shot daily as you are getting preshots too low to shoot. It would just be better to keep him in blues rather than a yellow preshot.

Hmmm. His PSAM was 121, so no shot. I was not expecting that. I am wondering if the numbers are being affected by how much he is/isn't eating. As for his appetite, he has one. He is eating, but it seems only FF for now and not as much. The little buggar seems to be getting finicky on me, and of course it's the more expensive kind. When we first started the wet food, he would eat what ever and as much as I put down then want more a few hours later. With his numbers trending down, could he using the food more efficiently?

Yes, that definitely could be the case. As they stablize, they quit having such a hard time using the food efficiently. Are you noticing other improvements? Shinier hair, more activity - more seeming like his old self?

Not really. I would have to say when his numbers are lower(150 and lower), he seems more reserved. The past two days he's spending more time sleeping in the window (behind curtains) which is unusual during cold snaps. I'm considering calling the vet.

There could be something else going on. An infection usually raises the numbers, but Every Cat is Different. His numbers are wonderful.
