i had been thinking all along that my cat's low energy was due to unregulated diabetes. Granted, we are still unregulated but getting some better numbers. Still he has low energy. Should i be worried that something else might be going on? I mean, he's got elevated pancreas and liver enzymes, which hopefully will decrease with regulation, but is it normal that he doesn't have much energy? He is bright and alert, not lethargic. Maybe its his neuropathy and just it making walking not fun is part of it? I've seen diabetic cats poorly regulated playing and acting like nothing is wrong. I'm confused.

What behavior suggest low energy vs just being more relaxed or comfortable because he isn't starving due to lack of insulin?

Also, if the pancreas and liver are not functioning properly, there could be some maldigestion. You might discuss the use of digestive enzyme and/or vitamin supplementation with your vet.

My vet said unregulated diabetic cats don't get much energy from their food. My Callie has been low energy for years so we just thought she was lazy when she wouldn't play with her twin brother. She does seem more alert since she started the insulin.
