Hi all! I just posted an introduction to my sugar baby Raven and I. We have been treating his diabetes for over a year now with low carb food (specifically friskies- I know it's a little higher carb than fancy feast but it's almost half the price and Raven's numbers aren't terrible) and beef insulin (1/2 unit twice daily- if he needs it).

And here is my problem. Raven LOVES to graze. He will only eat a couple of bites at a time, then wander off. Because of this (and because I have a greedy kitten who loves wet food), it's very hard to monitor his food intake. His blood sugar levels are fairly low (finally!) and easily managed with a small dose of his insulin.

My question is what happens when he's -too- low to give insulin (I don't shoot under 200). Nearly every time we miss an injection, he's back up in high numbers (200-350). I give the insulin and he drops to below his injection threshold within the next few feedings and the cycle continues. AM I DOING THIS RIGHT???? I'm terrified one day he will get DKA from his blood sugar being too high.

When BG's at the next shot time are too low to shoot, it sometimes means the dose is too high. Download the spreadsheet Larry linked and fill it with your test numbers. If you need help ask and someone will help you set it up. Then we can see what's going on.
