low blood sugar

I think i posted this on the wrong board....i've stop giving kee kee insulin as of tues morning...his numbers were so low, going from 8units of humN in july when we found out, to 2units twice a day......this morning before eating # was 78......three hours later it was 52.....ranges from 50 to 78...he acts fine, its me thats the problem. I dont know what i would have done without reading all the good advice on your board. He weighs 19 lbs....was almost 21. I give him fancy feast chicken and beef...one in am and one in pm.......is this enough food for him? Vet said he needs to lose weight and wanted him kept on dry food..this has been a nightmare. I just want to know if i should be giving him something else to eat? thank you so much

Breathe, Sherry. You aren't giving insulin right now, correct? You haven't given it in 4 days? If so, what you are seeing are normal non diabetic numbers :razz:

I give my non diabetic cat 2 cans of Fancy Feast a day. He weighs 8 pounds and is not very active. You could add .5 cans if he thinks he is starving, and see if he is more content. DO NOT give any dry food. That could send his numbers back into the diabetic range.

The other thing you can do is to spread the meals out. Feed the same amount but give him several small meals a day.
 
Ditto; you don't have to worry if he's not getting insulin. Don't know why the vet is insisting on dry food though, it won't help his diabetes and it won't help him lose weight. Have you considered switching?
