Scratches was at 249 pm pre shot. Two hours later she's at 71. I'm freaking a little. She seems okay. She's eating the rest of her dinner now. Should I panic??? What should I do??

Take another test to make sure that it was not a wonky strip (it happens).

Do you have lots of strips? High carb food? Honey or karo?

Give a small amount (~1tsp) of high-carb food, re-test in 30mins.

Gravy from a "gravy lovers" variety of fancy feast, etc.
Karo syrup or honey

Kibble will provide some carbs with staying power, so that's good, the problem is that they won't hit the system fast.

Just don't let her fill up on kibble right now. We may need her to eat more, for a while.

A trick to have in your back pocket is to drizzle some honey/karo on kibble for an extra fast boost. But let's see where she's at at the next test first.

Are you positive that you gave 2 units tonight? Just checking all the bases.

The 67 on an AlphaTrak has earned Scratches a reduction.

Edit: I will leave how much of a reduction for others more experienced on dosing than myself.

Scratches is the #1 priority. Get some honey/karo/maple syrup/whatever into her immediately.

Then: change the subject line of this post to include something like "41 (AlphaTrak)" and put a 911 flag on it to get more eyes on here.

How close is the nearest emergency vet? I don't mean to scare you, but we want to be prepared.

How is she acting?

The reason we are so concerned and thinking about taking her to an ER is that
1) 41 is quite low for an AT, and
2) this is extremely early in the cycle for this to be happening

Although we can often manage low numbers at home with food/carbs steering, in this situation it might be safer to bring Scratches to a vet where she can be put on a glucose drip and monitored continuously for several hours.

Then click "save."

Edit Title also allows you to put the current numbers in the thread title.
PMPS 249; +2 71/67; +2.5 (or maybe it is a +3) 41

I called the ER vet. Waiting on a call back. Just tested her again it's 70

OK that's better but you want to test again in 20-30 minutes

You may be able to handle this at home as long as you keep testing and have plenty of supplies (like Karo/honey/syrup and high carb food)

I think you have enough of us watching that you don't really need the 911 at this point. We suggest using that to get our attention....You already have it

The vet is going to call me back to let me know if it's an emergency situation

Phew! Much better!

Again, it is still very early in the cycle, so not out of the woods yet (the staying power of that kibble is going to come in very handy!)

As Chris says, test again in 30.

Most of the time they'll tell you to bring the cat in because we let our cats go lower than most vets are comfortable with.

But if you feel like you need to take her, that's absolutely your decision and we'll back you up whatever you decide.

PMPS 249
+2 71, 67 given treats (9 Lives dry?) + scoop of gravy food.
+2.5?? 41 gave ??
+3? 70 - did you give any food?

It is important for anyone helping you or watching to see a timeline.

She's acting fine. Loving this food she's getting

The vet hasn't called me back yet. I called three different numbers to get someone to answer, finally someone did. Said she was calling the vet and would get right back to me.

Just test again 30 minutes after the 70 and please keep your spreadsheet updated in between tests as best you can.

Make sure you apply a little pressure after testing to help with bruising.

Her poor ear is all purple where I've been poking her, I'm frantic.

Oh, poor girl! Are you applying pressure after doing the poke to cut down on bruising? That can help, but unfortunately, when you go through something like this early in the process, it's just a lot of pokes in a short time when they're not used to it, so ears do get sore.

I bet! Not a care in the world (for her!)!

She just got more honey and more wet food.
Can you fill in the question marks below for us? Either here or on your spreadsheet. The vet will want to know as well.

41 gave honey and some wet food. 70 gave a bit more wet food. Just got off phone with vet. She asked how she's acting I said comply fine. She just bathed herself. She said to just monitor her and she will be okay.

How long after PMPS was the 41? the 70? and the most recent test.

At 1 am it'll be six hours since her shot. I'm hoping we're out of the woods or will be there real soon. I've never been this scared in my whole life.
