Loss of appetite + thirst

Hi gang -

My little guy Stinkyboy, 15 years old, has been OTJ for about two months. His blood sugar (checked 2x a day - hovers around 66-70 most of the time) has been fine on Fancy Feast Classics and his appetite great until this week when he inexplicably stopped eating. He eats a little, but probably isn't getting more than 100 calories a day. He really should bea eating about 280-300. He's never lost the excessive thirst (which is why it was hard to tell he was diabetic initially - he has been a waterhog since he was a kitten). His energy level is fine, though.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm concerned because he loses weight really fast when he doesn't eat.

Thanks for any help/advice you can offer!

There could be a number of reasons for this. Hopefully you can bring him into the vet and get some labwork done.

Could you encourage more eating with some treats, baby food (gerbers meat only), or boiled chicken?

Maybe try switching the food to something else? I know a lot of people on the board have started finding it difficult to get their cats to eat ff lately. My foster started to refuse it about 4 months ago, too. Before that she was a hoover. Now with a variety of wellness, and a bit of EVO thrown in she is happy as a clam when it comes to meals.

I would try those few ideas first, while scheduling an appt with the vet. It's really important to make sure he is getting the appropriate calories so he does not get sick, causing greater complications. (ie/ Fatty Liver Disease)

Good Luck! Let us know how things go, or if you need any other suggestions to help get the calories in.
