Losing Remission?

Hi all,

A little background - my cat, Matilda, was diagnosed with diabetes in November. It was on top of pancreatitis and after a round of oral steroids, which were likely a major contributor. After 2 weeks on Lantus she quickly went into remission.

Matilda has been good since. She's on wet food and off insulin. I test her BG every 2 weeks or whenever she's acting weird. About a week and a half ago she had some decreased appetaite. I was worried about a pancreatitis flare-up and took her in and got bloodwork done, but bloodwork was normal and she's now chowing down on some new fancy feast flavors. In the meantime, though, to get her to eat I was giving her some dry food and started monitoring her BG more closely.

It took a few days of dry food but I did see a spike in her BG. The highest her BG was was 111, and I pulled all the dry food then. It went back down to normal, which is around 80-85 for her, but I've been monitoring more closely ever since. I've seen some numbers a little higher than I'm used to. This morning before food she was at 94 - do these numbers seem concerning? I know we're still in the realm of normal but it feels like they're creeping up. She does have some dental work coming up in May - could it be because of that?

Thanks!

94 is fine. Under 100 is best but up to 120 is considered in normal range. Please don’t give any more dry food. It is not worth the risk.
Try testing her before food, feed her then test two or three hours later. If the BSL has dropped, the pancreas is working.

Chicken or seafood flavored freeze dried treats like PureBites are better if she needs a treat to get her to eat. They have no carbs and are pure protein. Please stay away from dry, it'll push her off the wagon! Hopefully after her dental work her numbers will drop even more.
