Losing faith in my vet!

Louie and I are only a week into this new adventure, and it amazes me how overwhelming and confusing it has been. I had the good instinct to connect with this community right away, and felt instantly comforted by the day to day commitment you all have made to your kitties....sharing wisdom and experience to newcomers like me. Louie's first prescription by the vet was for 3 units of Lantus, and since then he has not been below that level. I feel so ignorant right now, not knowing that it was way too much to give him! When I questioned the vet today about it, his response was to be annoyed with me for even doubting him. Not cool with me. Now I need to figure this out myself, and would love any suggestions or insights anyone might have~

Hi,
We're going to need more information to go on so we can start really helping you and Louie out.
Your insulin is Lantus, and the vet has him on 3u BID, right?
I saw in an earlier thread that Lori told you about "newbie kits" so you can start hometesting Louie's BG. Have you contacted her about getting one? If so, have you started testing yet?
What sort of BG numbers have you gotten, or has the vet gotten?
Has anyone asked about or showed you where to go in order to set up a spreadsheet?
You've also been trying to transition 5 kitties to wet food.... how is that going?

You said that his numbers are all over the place, but what are they?

Depending on the numbers, it could be that 3 units is too much, in spite of what your vet says, but we need numbers to see if that is the case.
Have you seen signs in Louie that he is doing any better? Less peeing and drinking? Good appetite? Is he moving around okay, any signs of mobility problems?

The more we know, the easier it will be for us to help you out with this. Also, where abouts are you located? There may be another member close by that can suggest a different vet, one that is more familiar with feline diabetes and basically just a nicer person! A vet who gets annoyed by questions is a vet asking to lose a customer. Not cool with me either!

You don't have to figure this out yourself. That's why all of us come here every day. To help people, just like we were helped the day we showed up lost, confused and overwhelmed. You're part of a really great, large, wonderful community now.

Bump.
did louis get 1 unit this morning rather than 3?
Lori

Tracy,
Please inform everyone what the numbers are you've been getting. How much you've been shooting as per vet (3-4 units  )
And have Sue Oliver get your Spread sheet up.

When you talk to us try to let us know what you are actually doing so you can get info. And that subject title....while accurate and understandable, is not the actual point right now. 'I need help" or Dosing questions" is more immediate for you now.
Lori
