there was a bit of a mudslide in Laguna overnight and all of downtown is under water and mud is my understanding from the news. I know Lori is not right down in downtown but close enough she might be hunkered down in her house for the day because of it. soooooooo, lori, if you see this can you let us know you're ok? or if anyone talks to her, let us know?

ok, that raquel rd looks to be about three and a half miles or so from her.
that broadway street though is slightly over a mile is all
 
I hope TomTom is OK too. Not sure if those Swift Water rescue teams are trained to deal with diabetic cats.

All in all this sounds fairly normal for Laguna Beach. :roll: [but still hoping she & TomTom are OK]
 
hi guys. nailbite_smile woke up to loud noise about 5. two trees had fallen and as i got out of bed squish squish went th carpet beneth my feet. :sad: the water is coming up from under the house and into the house...the ceiling is leaking but i have that under control...i had to try to move super heavy antiique wood furniture..remove all the drawers so i could move it and then just put aluminum foil under the wooden 'feet' so it would'nt get rotted. i'm just trying not to freak out and take one step at a time...the worst of the rain is yet to come i hear. bluebird is passable but with caution and mudslides and trees are up and down the road. the police called me (and everyone on this hill) with a recorded announcement to check the areas around your home for slides and report them...aiy yai yai...i'm already so exhausted. the only rooms being affected thus far are my bedroom and the studio...and most likely the garage is flooded but i haven't even bothered to check that out...and tom was 575 this morning! stressed? maybe a little. poor guy
 
Use more than aluminum [or many layers], that furniture will poke a hole right through. Good idea though. The carpet cleaners usually use either thick plastic sheeting/visqueen or blocks of hard foam insulation [just ideas].

I hope mildew is not your next enemy - especially since it is cold and you are probably trying to keep warm by having the place shut up.

I hear the swift water rescue team have canoes - you could try to flag one down? ;-)
 
glad to hear from you lori. not good the trouble you're having though.

we gave up on our pool. we drained some out a couple days ago and by the following morning, it was overflowing out of the skimmer again. soooo, as long as it flows there and out into the yard there's not much more we can do. we too have sprung a couple leaks. one coming thru a light in the living room a couple nights ago and then a new one this morning in the hallway upstairs. Em alerted me to that one actually as when the water hit the floor he whipped his little head around like "WHO'S THERE?" so i got up to see what was going on and discovered a few drops of water in the hallway.

fixed the one over the living room temporarily and it's holding but the one upstairs we'll have to see about tonight when we get home. all i can say is thank goodness for 27lb empty kitty litter pails and tile floors :-)

haven't been home during daylight for a few days now but i'm sure the neighbor's pool is brown again. when we get this much rain the flow off our property tends to go across their yard and right into their pool apparently. of course, if they planted some grass it might keep the dirt from moving down and into their pool but oh well i guess. something about only having to deal with this stuff once or twice a year seems to make us californians a bit complacent about it all i think. LOL!!

supposedly today is it for a while so i hope you dry out soon and stay on the hill. i assume that roofer guy never found time to get to you yet? a*&hole!
 
So glad to hear that you and TomTom are safe right now. Please keep us updated! Squishy floors makes me worry! nailbite_smile
 
OK!!! Thunder and lightening here!!! Whoot whoot! That like never happens here. The biggest bang we get here is the space shuttle coming in. I know, nothing compared to the storms in the mid-west, but the mid west doesn't have sedimentary mountains + fire like SoCal nailbite_smile
 
Wow, sounds crazy out that way. I'm glad you and Tom are ok! I hope his numbers improve once the stress goes down. I guess you'll have quite a mess to clean up, but thankfully your house is as ok as it can be. I hope you weren't having company over for the holidays! This could put a damper on those plans.

I finally got a hold of Lori on the phone and she wanted me to let everyone know she's ok. A friend helped her move her furniture and take up the carpet.

She said it looks like a war zone with trees down and her shrubs pulled out by the roots, mud everywhere.

She doesn't know when she'll be back on but she will.
 
OMG sounds like a whopper of a mess. :shock: Stay strong Lori & Tomtom... and dry if you can!!! Cindy too! I have one leak but it is an old-timer, I have a system to deal with it, so no biggie. Thankfully we have gotten a break in the rain, but I guess that's cuz it headed south to you guys :evil:
 
I am so glad to hear that all of you Calif peeps are okay. :YMHUG: I didn't realize how bad it was! Thanks, Rob, for the update on Lori. I hope these storms stop soon. Weird weather we've been having too.
 
hi friends! i'm utterly exhausted as i wind up the day. my friend Micheal came over with a wet vac and an industrial strength suction vac. the hardest part has been displacing all the furniture in the house. nothing is where it should be. i'm soooo tired as i was up all night listening to the rain and just KNOWING the canyon i live in could not contain all this water. i drove down the hill to my salon about 4pm, that was my first time out of the house and bluebird canyon looked like a disaster area. downed trees, boulders and 4 feet of mud on the road. i still don't know the full extent of damage around my house...it's just to early to tell. water coming in my bedroom from the ground up? i don't know how it got in and need to find out.
thanks you guys for checking on me and the well wishes. fingers, paws, toes, and legs crossed none of the homes start slipping, please not mine and tomtoms.
and gator is silly, this does'nt happen all the time in laguna. probably been 10 years or so since we had flooding like this.
oh, and my bogenvia was literally ripped out of the ground and pulled from the fence???? it's a clinging vine, now how does that happen????
