First time for starting one of these :smile:
I was out at the edge of the woods looking to see if my Lily of the Valley, had started coming up. Not yet.
I couldn' t find the Trillium either. I hope it's just too early .

I found a ton of leeks. I've never cooked with them, but locally (Buffalo), leek and ham soup and casseroles is a big deal.
Is that a local thing?
I was raised in Pgh, and never heard of it. But then, in Pgh, rhubarb was everywhere, and I never hear of it around here. My mom loved to make rhubarb pie.....I hated it.

They are delicious! My daughter will not eat onion rings, but when I make a batch of these up she takes half the stack! :lol:

Oh thanks Cathy. It never occurred to me to go looking for recipes. I may do that wheat pasta one, too.

How about something else that grows 'wild' in places - Mexican Sour Gherkins or 'Mouse Melons'. Here's a pic of one I pickle off of each year....just pop them in a hot jar, cover in hot vinegar/salt brine and seal.

That must be a local thing .. I've never heard of leak and ham soup ..

We do have rhubarb around here .. I don't like the taste of it .. but growing up peter was called the rhubarb kid on his street .. cause he would pluck them out from the neighbors yard and eat them all day long .. yeck!

i have catnip growing! anyone want some? not that i'm sure punkin would share, cuz he sure likes it.

we have trillium around here, although i haven't been in a forest recently to see if they're up. i adore them.

not too sure about ham and leek casserole - sounds a little like foreign food (NY?) to me. :lol: out here in orygun we eat ham and potato casserole. ;-)

i'm not crazy about rhubarb either - my mom was horribly allergic to it and i think i am as well, so eating it isn't something i'm very interested in.

well don't i sound picky! :lol: actually we eat a lot from our garden - tomatoes, cukes, beans, peas, raspberries and strawberries (allergic to them too, but the family loves them).

pizza is good. anyone like pizza? we had a mexican pizza tonight with refried beans instead of pizza sauce.

I grow leeks - I love them. Most people use them in soup or soup stock, but they're also good raw, sauteed, baked in cream, etc. They overwinter well, and I can go out and pull one or two out of the ground even when it's snowing. yum.

Rhubarb-yuck. It's like eating sour celery.
