I had to take one of our civvies, Scooter, who'll be 14 this April to the vet's this morning. I noticed that there was blood on the kitchen floor from where he was sitting, and immediately put him on Clavamox that I still had for him. I kept checking him throughout the day yesterday, and this morning, when he got up from his nap for the final meal of the day, I noticed that he was bleeding. After I got them fed, I took him to the vet. From her examination, the anal gland is about 1/4" in size, and there is what looks to be a pimple or cyst, or something next to his rectum that oozes blood and liquid. She thinks it could be impacted, but I know she's not telling me what she and I really think. He's there for the day, at least, or possibly overnight. She'll be performing the surgery and will scrape it clean, and will contact me later today hopefully so that I can go get him. I need a ton of prayers, please for him. He's our late Precious' son.

When I got home, I cried. I really hope that it's nothing serious. I asked the vet if they could become cancerous, and she nodded "yes". I already knew the answer before I asked her. If that's the case, I don't want to be making the decision alone. My husband and I will make the decision as putting him through that kind of treatment isn't affordable for us. I wouldn't want him to suffer anymore than I'd want to suffer if I was in his paws.

I'm numb. I feel like crying again, but it wouldn't change anything. I just hope that it can be fixed so that he can continue to live a happy, normal Scooter life.

Thank you.

"Could" and "is" are very different. Sending tons of vines for your guy. Melissa's Tarragon and Jill's Alex (I think) had impacted anal glands and they are fine now.

Sending Prayers and Vines that the problem is just a pimple or something easily treated and cured.
(((((((Hugs)))))))))))

Sending lots of healing vines and soothing snowflakes. We all hope it is just something simple and easily cleared up.

(((Angela))) so sorry to hear about Scooter but try and stay positive, maybe it will be an easy fix! Sending tons of healing vines and hugs to you! Paws crossed all goes well at the vet. Take care.

Gobs of healing vines for poor Scooter! That must be pretty uncomfortable. Fingers and paws crossed it's a relatively simple fix. Stay strong and give him extra scritches & hugs!

Tons of vines coming for Scooter! Think positive, Angela. At least don't worry about the worst possibility, unless you find out that's what it is. Hugs to you.

Jill's Alex went through the surgery for a ruptured anal gland. I'd suggest sending her a PM to ask more about treatment. (Alex did not have cancer.) Also, they used cold laser treatment for this and it was very helpful with the recovery process.

Sending vines for Scooter.

We also went through a ruptured abcessed anal gland with our civvie, Zen, last year. The wound was huge...but it wasn't cancer. AFter ABs and a daily betadine wash, his little tush was fine. Like Liz said, "could be" and "is" are two different things. We SO understand your stress and worry...sending healing vines for Scooter and calming vines for you....

(((Angela))) sending tons of healing vines and prayers for little Scooter that it's something treatable. Lots of good info above from Beans with similar medical issues. (((Hugs)))

(((((Angela))))) We, too, are sending our prayers and healing vines for Scooter and hoping that whatever it is, it will be easily treatable. Try to stay positive. Thinking of you,

Hugs, lots of them :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

((((Angela))). If it is an anal gland, we went through that with Tarragon a few months back when both ruptured. I hope you got some answers at the vet. Thinking of you and sending healing vines.

Sending Healing Prayers for Scooter and like everything that has been said, see what tomorrow brings--My sincerest thoughts are with you..Comforting Hugs & Love from us!!

(((Angela)))

Many healing vines to Scooter and tons of miracle LL prayers. I was going to tell you the same thing Sienne did. My vet has used the Grady cold laser on my cats for alot of stuff....it is amazing. It worked wonders when Gus had a ruptured sebaceous cyst that was horribly infected.

Please keep us posted.

Oh Angela! Shasta and I are sending lots and lots of healing vines for your sweet Scooter! Praying the news is good for a long, happy life. ((hugs))
