Carl & Polly & Bob (GA)
It's been a little over two weeks since Polly moved in. She pretty much owns the place. ;-) She has claimed the recliner as her own (which is fine because other than for napping, it's not the greatest seat in the living room). She has yet to refuse, or to turn up her nose, at any of the food choices. Not feeding all low carb, but absolutely no dry food! She has sampled Fancy Feast, Meow Mix "toppers", Friskees, and Sheba varieties. I'm trying to stay with the 3oz cans when at all possible. She gets 4 servings a day. No litter box mishaps, no furniture scratching, no misbehavior of any sort.
She isn't, so far, a "lap kitty". She'll lay next to me, but not on me. Not a big fan of being held for snuggles, but she tolerates them. But she will rub on my ankles and legs, especially when I am walking, and she'll put up with being petted, scratched and belly rubbed until my arm goes numb. Usually if I wake up in the middle of the night, she'll be curled up asleep either right next to my head, or being a foot warmer.
She is definitely NOT a morning kitty. Which is perfect, because I am in no way, shape or form a "morning person". Last week I worked the pre-sunrise shift. When I told her "breakfast is served", she opened one eye, said "whatever, I'll get it in a few" and promptly went back to sleep. She is definitely a member of the CPC, but not a hoover like Bob and Mullet were. She's a "dainty eater".
She loves toys of all sorts, but the catnip nanner is probably her favorite. She even likes the TP roll rings, which the boyz would just ignore. And she can use her extra toes to pick up all kinds of things. If I see her pick up a utensil like a fork or knife, I'll be sleeping with the bedroom door locked. I'm guessing she can also turn a door knob...
Her favorite place is the screened front porch. I spent a couple days and a couple hundred dollars building frames with treated lumber and hardware cloth to reinforce all of the screen panels. When did hardware cloth double in price??? Now she can be out there even if I am not home, and I don't have to worry about her getting or falling out through the screens. She gets to see birds, squirrels, and deer, plus cars that drive by too fast. I'll be building her a series of ramps and platforms out there too so she can get some exercise and not be bored while I'm at work. She seems to think that leaves, pine needles and pine cones only exist to irritate her. If it rains or is windy, and they start falling near the porch, she will "chitter" at them like they've invaded her peace and quiet. It's pretty funny to watch! And she likes that I've got Christmas lites around the porch edges so she can see out at night.
All in all, she is pretty much the perfect roommate and companion! At some point, she'll probably start grabbing a pen and sticky notes and writing me "to-do lists", at which time I might reevaluate that "perfect roommate" thing... but for now, she's not really very high maintenance at all.
Here are some pics of the queen of the house:
In the top pic, you can tell there's extra parts on the front paw. In the bottom pic, you can see that she has an extra toe on the rear foot.
