Finally this morning we are seeing lower numbers for Sebastian. Amps was 423 which is much lower than the 600s we have been seeing. We're hoping this is the sign that he now has the Insulin Depot we have been reading and hearing about. We also started to spread his meals out last night. I fed a reasonable amount of his wet food pre shot at 6:30p.m. and then another small amount at 10:30. This seamed to keep the hunger down. Maybe this is helping regulate his body as well? We we're overwhelmed with all of the fast responses after our initial post yesterday and all of the great info and help! Thank you all for this! What a great site. It takes so much stress and worry away!

That drop to 238 is very nice to see! Please don't be worried if Sebastian's number bounce back up into a higher range. If Sebastian is used to seeing those much higher numbers, his body won't be used to better numbers and his liver and pancreas are likely to overreact. The overreaction involves a release of a stored form of glucose along with counterregulatory hormones that will cause a spike in BG numbers. This can last for up to 3 days and we refer to it as a bounce. It's supremely annoying but a part of the process of getting your kitty regulated.

 
Sebastian is now at 95! 7 hours after his morning dose. We started with a AMPS number of 423, +4 hours he was at 238 and +7 hours at 95 BG. He has had two small meals of wet food. One at pre shot and one at 11 a.m. Thinking now we are seeing that he has the required insulin depot and the low carb high protein food is finally showing itself?

Thank you for the info. Not only am I learning about Diabetes but computers as well. How do I link todays posts to yesterdays as you mentioned doing? I will get this and can't thank everyone enough for the help and support!
 
I would check Sebastian soon! A snack of his usual low carb food if his numbers are still dropping would be a good idea.

Thank you! I did feed him when I saw the numbers had come down so fast. Will check again in an hour to see where they are. I'll have to figure out what to do tonight for a dose or possibly no dose. I will check every hour to two throughout the afternoon.
 
Just dropping in to say hi and welcome to Lantus & Lev Land. Sebastian is a handsome guy! Feline diabetes management has a steep learning curve, but it all falls into place after you are at it a while. Just keep asking questions. Feeding a number of smaller meals helps to keep the blood glucose more stable, but every cat is different (ECID) and you will have to determine from experience what works best for you and Sebastian. My Maine Coon Cat, Rusty, is a grazer, so he spreads out his meals over the course of a few hours by himself, but some cats are "Hoovers".
